In stock form, these cars run mid 13s. Some have gone low low 13s stock.

If you drive a brand new car, it needs about 40 starts for the ecu to optimally adjust. The STI also needs to be in Sport Sharp.

These cars only do 101-102mph in the 1/4 mile stock. That's decent, but even a stock Mustang V6 would be neck and neck, possibly even faster once rolling.

The power delivery once under boost is very flat and linear. The power curve is very broad and not peaky like an NA motor, especially a high strung NA motor. It's misleading and fools the butt dyno.

What do wrx's do with the same mods? Seeing the similarities?

What I ended up doing is stopping by my buddys house who has a WRX that runs roughly 300hp to the crank...similar power to the STi with a different curve. I've had lots of turbo cars so I'm used to the power curve (turbo mini, built turbo sr20 pickup, various diesels). The power was plenty adequate, I'm pretty sure I was not in Sport or S# I think I was all the way over to the right which is probably why.
I'm ordering it today: 2013 STi with Short Shifter, SiriusXM, and Aero Rack. Anything else I should definitely get?

So you drove one, found the power lacking enough to post about it, and are ordering one anyhow?

Hmm ok. But if it were me, I would go drive it again and make sure I was in S# before comitting.

As i just said in my above post, I just drove a 2013 WRX hatch yesterday with very minor work done to it that was not as fast as a stock STi and found it more than enough for what I need.

Any idea what the setup is for engine management?

Cobb tune, not sure whether it was stage one or two, but once the new one has 1000 miles I'll also be running a Cobb. He said it just about hangs with a stock STi in his club so im pretty confident that I'll be happy with it. Right out of the gate Ill have full bolt ons and probably a set of coilovers waiting when the car comes in.

Um....stock wrx's are faster than stock sti's.

I think you should do more research before buying a 35k+ car

Plus, the new wrx is underrated. It dynos about the same as an sti

Hey its your money, do what you like.

But let me point out that as stated above, the WRX and STI dyno about the same in stock form. Also, the gearing is different on the two cars so they feel a bit different.

Second, you drove a modded WRX. Even at stage 1, the power increase is quite noticable. At stage 2, the difference is a lot .. and you have no idea even how far the WRX was modded.

My advice from earlier stands. But if you proceed to spend 35Kish on a car you drove once, then complained about, do not come in here crying about the lack of power after you get it.

You might want to qualify that statement. Rethink and be specific if you care about your reputation

The WRX is faster in a straight line due to equal whp while being 200 pounds lighter. STI is faster on any sort of road course due to better brakes/suspension from the factory.

I'm stating facts and I don't care about my reputation on an online forum. LOL

The wrx is faster...unless you live on the track.

Ha. You just qualified it. Although pretty weakly...

Anyway, good contradiction. All that said, if given the opportunity to choose, i would choose the sti even if it is 'slower' from the factory

I know this, but just saying 'wrx is faster than sti' is a partial truth

Considering probably 95% of people who own subarus never see a track, that's why I didn't say anything about s track at first.

IMO, it's a huge waste of money to buy an sti for a majority of consumers. I wouldn't have said that back in the 00's

Oh no, let's not start the WRX vs STI debate in yet another thread.

I think the point is that they feel different when driven, and the OP should not use driving a modded WRX as his basis to buy an STI after complaining about its power.

That said, it looks like the OP plans on modding anyhow. But even modded to the same levels the cars feel different at WOT due to the gearing and such.

This is a good point to consider. The STI does have deeper gearing with the 6MT vs the 5MT of the WRX. Adding additional torque multiplication has a great way of affecting the butt dyno and makes you feel like you're going quicker than you really are. It doesn't necessarily equate to faster acceleration at all times such as 0-60 or even the 1/4 mile.

Stock for stock, the STI and WRX run very similiar 1/4 mile times and the WRX is actually fractionally quicker to 120mph. The STI's gearing is better suited to track duty, outside of auto-x. The STI puts down about 5-10whp more to the wheels, but weighs around 150lbs more than a WRX.

Really? I thought the shorter 2nd gear would be a HUGE advantage in autox

I agree with you. The shorter gears really help you get out of the hole.

Depends on how you drive and personal preference I suppose. On twisties, the extra gear helps you keep the car in it's ideal powerband/RPM. Obviously where there are straight-aways, and launching, less gears is better.

Ever been driving at low speed or cornering in your WRX, and feel like you want to almost drop to 1st gear, but the car fights it? That is where the 6 speed is nice.
