2021 Corvette To Offer Magnetic Ride Control As Standalone Option

As we’ve already covered, the upcoming 2021 Corvette Stingray will come with a variety of new options and equipment changes, including new stripe and exterior colors, new interior colors, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and new graphics. Now, we’re looking at changes to the upcoming Vette’s suspension offerings, specifically the availability of Magnetic Ride Control.

As revealed in a recently leaked 2021 Corvette Order Guide summary, choosing the Magnetic Ride Control (FE2) suspension will no longer require the optional Z51 Performance Package beforehand. Rather, Magnetic Ride Control will be offered as a standalone option.

This is great news for those 2021 Corvette buyers uninterested in the Z51 package, and simply want the handling and ride benefits offered by Magnetic Ride Control.

To note, the Z51 Performance Package offered with the current 2020 Chevrolet Corvette includes:

Upgraded Brembo brakes
Performance exhaust
Performance rear axle ratio
Electronic Limited Slip Differential
Z51-specific front splitter and rear spoiler
Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires
Heavy-duty cooling system

Pricing for the 2020 Chevrolet Corvette Z51 Performance Package is $5,000. Pricing for the Magnetic Ride Control standalone option on the 2021 Corvette is not yet available, but costs $1,895 on the 2020 edition.

It’ll be interesting to see how buyers respond to the equipment change. Although the base-model C8 Corvette currently starts at just under $60,000, prices can quickly rise as more and more options are tacked on. That said, a standalone Magnetic Ride Control option could tempt those buyers that don’t want to go whole hog with the options list, but don’t want a bare-bones Vette, either.

Default 2021 Corvette Stingray To Get Wireless Apple CarPlay And Android Auto —

Quote:
2021 Corvette Stingray To Get Wireless Apple CarPlay And Android Auto

Details on the 2021 Corvette Stingray are now coming to light, with the new model year tipped to offer a competition-inspired graphics package, new paint colors and stripe options, and new interior colors as well. Now, it looks as though the next model year will also bring fresh infotainment features with the addition of wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

As revealed by a leaked 2021 Corvette Stingray Order Guide summary, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto will be standard on the 1LT, 2LT, and 3LT trim levels. To note, the current 2020 Corvette C8 comes equipped with wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard.

The switch from wired to wireless is a good move for the 2021 Corvette, given customers have come to expect instant smartphone support as soon as they enter their vehicle. Indeed, several other 2021 model year General Motors vehicles also offer wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, including:

2021 Chevrolet Camaro
2021 Chevrolet Trailblazer
2021 Chevrolet Tahoe
2021 Chevrolet Suburban
2021 Buick Encore GX
2021 GMC Yukon / Yukon XL
2021 Cadillac Escalade

To note, standard features on the 2020 Chevrolet Corvette include an 8.0-inch infotainment touchscreen, a Bose 10-speaker sound system, 12-inch diagonal color Driver Information Center, and HD Radio, all of which are expected to carry over with the 2021 Corvette Stingray.

As we covered previously, the 2021 Corvette will also get two new exterior colors, with Silver Flare (GSJ) and Red Mist Tintcoat (GPH) replacing Blade Silver Metallic (GAN) and Long Beach Red Metallic Tintcoat (G1E), respectively. The range-topping 3LT trim level will get two new interior color combo options. Meanwhile, customers will also have access to a new exterior graphics package that dresses the C8 in a C8.R-inspired aesthetic.

As we covered previously, it looks as though future high-performance variants of the C8 Corvette have unfortunately been delayed as a result of ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

I just wish it had a V6 option with 18-inch wheels for the incredibly bad roads our city has.

Something fun to drive with about 350hp would be perfect for my uses and skill level. I've considered a 718 but paying that much money for a 4 banger is dumb.

I still can't get over the styling. Hopefully the Z cars will have enough performance to make me get over it.

Why not get a used M2. You can find 2016-2017 with under 25k miles for mid 30's. If you want a 2018 they are high 30's to low 40's with under 15k miles. If you want an M2C, those can be had for $50k or so.

Yep, the wheels are terrible. Bad designs, bad offsets and the car needs to be lowered a little. All of that helps, but there's still some things about the design that just look clunky and tacky to me.

I feel like the C8 aesthetic design is in the uncanny valley for me. It's so close to being great, but "off" just enough that I can't stand it.

I may look at them again now that it's been out for a while. They got the proportions right for the design. The M2C is too hardcore for 99% of my driving. I need sharp, but not harsh. (the Miata had to go when the wife's back couldn't take the seats on a road trip)

Yeah, that too.

I was thinking these 86 TRD(?) wheels.

IMO, the spoiler and the (black) side air intakes kill the looks for me. Either way, bet more than a few early gotta-have-it adopters are kicking themselves regarding the announcement for the 2021 model. Like the Zupra buyers.

Units of the all-new, mid-engine Corvette C8 barely started production before the coronavirus pandemic delivered the world a significant blow, changing the lives of millions. General Motors managed to produce just shy of 2,700 units of the new 2020 Corvette Stingray Coupe before the car’s home – the GM Bowling Green plant in Kentucky – was idled. Though production remains suspended as we write this, the Corvette’s future shines bright, with the product team planning no less than six models during the vehicle’s lifecycle. GM Authority has spent the last few months speaking to insider sources and compiling information to put together a comprehensive guide of all the future Corvette C8 models and variants that are expected to be on the way. So buckle in and let’s see what’s in store.

AWD E-Ray? Wish there was a 6MT and I could talk myself into an AWD Vette, even if it's a bitch ass hybrid.

Consensus on Corvette Forum seems to be that gmauthority article is BS. I guess we will see, but I happen to be one of those in the camp that massive amounts of HP is not needed. Make it rev high and scream (assuming it can last) and I would be all over that. 600HP for the Z06 is plenty.

three quarter scale korbett has been the dream for the last 3 gens imho.

Though the c8 does seem to be a slice of alright from the reviews I have been watching.

It's just too big. The wheels are too big. The tires are excessive. The brakes are excessive. I don't want a car that fits a 400lb man as comfortably as it fits my 125lb wife. I don't need 200mph specs. At the same time, I'd like something with more attitude than my Miata had. V6 with dual exhaust and about a 8000rpm redline. actual HP doesn't matter. just sound good and don't try to kill me if I lift off the throttle mid-corner like a noob.

That said, I noticed that used Evoras are becoming reasonable.

Default Is This The 2021 Corvette Stingray R Package?

Quote:
Is This The 2021 Corvette Stingray R Package?

Back in March, it was reported that the 2021 Corvette would offer a variety of new exterior color options and new racing stripe options, including the addition of a new “‘Stingray R‘ theme graphics and wheel cap” package. Now, it looks like the Stingray R styling package may have just debuted at Road America.

Over the weekend, Corvette Racing secured its third-straight IMSA win, going one-two in the GTLM Class. Playing the part of official pace car for the race was a white Chevrolet Corvette C8 road car, which curiously came outfitted with a distinct graphics package.

The biggest indication that this is indeed the 2021 Corvette’s new Stingray R Package can be found along the pace car’s prominent chin spoiler, where we find an obvious “Stingray R” script, with the word Stingray in white, and the letter R in red.

The official Corvette Racing social media feed recently posted images of the pace car posing alongside the two Corvette C8.R racing machines, giving us a clear view of what we could expect from the new 2021 Corvette styling package.

Further styling additions include a large hood stripe, which gets a black/carbon two-tone finish and a prominent Corvette Jake emblem, plus the words “Corvette Racing” in red. There’s also large Bow Tie emblem on the roof, once again in the black/carbon finish, as well as red sideview mirrors, red accents for the aero and High Wing Spoiler, and a prominent windshield banner with “Stingray” displayed in white lettering. It also looks as though the wheel center caps could incorporate the Jake logo, similarly to the standalone accessory option currently offered.

As we’ve covered previously, the 2021 Corvette comes with just a few small changes and updates compared to the previous 2020 model year. That said, the addition of the Stingray R Package could make for an enticing bit of kit for those owners looking to stand out from the pack.

One #Corvette will lead the field at #RoadAmerica. The other two lead the #IMSA #GTLM Championship for @TeamChevy. Notice a pattern?#MidEngine #Stingray #C8R pic.twitter.com/GGXEgMOGNK

— Corvette Racing (@CorvetteRacing) August 2, 2020

What’s more, several options and accessories are getting a price bump with the latest model year, including the Z51 performance Package and Front Lift Suspension.

It was reported in May that 2021 Corvette production would be pushed back to November, and that some 2020 model year orders would be moved to the 2021 model year.

As a reminder, the 2021 Corvette rides on the mid-engine Y2 platform, and is powered by the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 LT2 engine. Production takes place at the GM Bowling Green Assembly plant in Kentucky.

2021 Chevrolet Corvette Arriving Much Earlier Than Expected

Christmas is coming early this year.

Production of the new mid-engine Chevrolet Corvette C8 have been a tumultuous affair ever since 2019, when the United Auto Workers Union staged a nationwide strike and shut down GM facilities for some 40 days, delaying the start of production. The global pandemic didn't help things any.

Now, though, things are looking better than ever for C8 production, as Corvette Action Center reports that production has stabilized with two shifts churning out 186 cars per day on average, which is up from where it was just last month. As a result, the start of production of the 2021 model is being moved up significantly.

In a production update released to Chevrolet dealers on Thursday morning, GM said that 2021 Chevrolet Corvette production is now set to start December 8 - nearly a month earlier than it had been expected to begin. GM might still produce the 2020 and 2021 models side-by-side for a time as the company tries to hit its original 20,000-unit production target for the outgoing model year, but that production will only be to fill outstanding orders; last month, the company took down its configurator for the 2020 Corvette and put up one for the 2021 Corvette in its place.

The transition from 2020 to 2021 Corvette production ought to be a smooth one, given the fact that only minor changes have been introduced. Two new exterior colors have joined the palette, along with new stripe options; there's a new interior color scheme, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and magnetorheological dampers are now available as a standalone option.
What all of this means is that customers who have put in orders for 2021 Corvettes might just receive their cars a bit earlier than expected - in some cases, maybe even before Christmastime. That ought to have Corvette fans everywhere celebrating.

Some teething issues like others.
