Default mounting my sub and amp in my trunk

hey guys, i need to mount both my amp and sub in my trunk and was wondering if these would be ok spots to use.

for the amp: the back wall of my trunk (back of the rear seats). if i just drilled a few small screws to just hold the amp in place.

the sub box: if i just drilled some small screws through the board on the bottom of the trunk into the box, the one on top of the spare.

would this be possible? thanks

the amp is a good i dea, just make sure you know what your drilling into first, find solid mounting points or it's going to fall off in hard driving.

for the sub box... go to wal*mart, buy some industrial strength velcro in the fabrics section, i think it's like $7, but the side wit the hooks on the bottom of your box and then stick it down to your carpet, the hooks will catch with the carpet and you'll be fine. I have 2 10s in a box with the amp on the back of the box stuck down with that stuff and i can go run through dirt roads at high speeds and slide around turns without the box budging one bit.

it's also much easier than screwing stuff down

thanks!

i actually have a bunch of velcro strips. they are general use for smooth surfaces and not really for clothed surfaces, but im pretty sure if i use enough it wont really matter, its only a single 12 in a medium sized box. almost 19 all around.

thanks again!

I mounted a crossboard behind the seat to mound my amps (two of them). I tried the velcro route for my sub-box and it worked well until I took my first brisk corner (another words, velcro sucks!). The cheapest way that I found to hold my box in place was to use a truck bed pole (adjustable pole) and mount it in front of my box (box is nearest the bumper). It's light and doesn't cause me any problems at all.. plus its easy to remove.

I have seen people remove the spare and prep the hole for a single speaker... looks nice and works well if you don't want a spare.

Since i got rims and tires the spare doesn't match the new wheels diameter so i ditched it and put my amp in there.I don't like the idea of on the back seats because the heat is just radiating back onto the amp.Maybe if it was 100% verticle and you mounted it with the fins verticle but on a hot day those amps will shut down if your pushing them.Especially with the crappy 13.8 volts from the alt.GM alts rule with the 14.5V

that's why the fans and vents are on the top of most amps so you can mount them to things.

if you want a clean install you can do what we did with my friends civic, like dumdum said you can put the sub in the spare tire well. check out his page, we just put fiberglass in the bottom of the car, cut off the excess, built a frame to hold the mdf for the sub mount, fiberglassed it air tight and then mounted his sub inside. granted he does have a massive PG titanium 15 so we had to mount it a little above the floor level, but with a smaller sub it should fit flush.

here's his cardomain page if you want to see what we did. http://www.cardomain.com/ride/692845/3

Yea, I don't agree with mounting the amps to the back of the seats either. Thats Why i mounted them on a mounting board about 2"s off the back seat. You space them out and drill you a hole between them in the board... thats where you run the cables through. Keeps it real clean.

thanks for the advice guys, i went ahead and used velcro liberally on the bottom of the box and then mounted my amp on top of the box via the same method. needless to say it looks super clean, and best of all - no holes!

heres a quick pic of it.

thanks again!

Go take a quick corner... let me know if either 1. the carpet moves and speaker slides around or 2. the velcro doesn't hold. Thats what happened to me... got tired of dealing with it.
