Hey! First time I've ever ventured over to the Old Skool forum.

I just found a couple Subaru Justys for sale in the local Craigslist. The guy says they're front wheel drive but seems like a great old skool commuter Suby. I'm gonna try and find some more info about the Justys and see whats what.

Right, here's the link but no pictures Greenville, SC Craigslist Justys

Just joined the Forum. I have a 1984 GL. I have had this little wagon since 1999. I have had very little trouble with it. One water pump about five years ago. I installed a Weber DGV carb and I think that this is a very good modification. The manuals, both Factory and Haynes, don't give much information about the fuel pump relay on these models, except to state that the carb equiped cars don't have them. This is not correct, I know mine does, I tempted fate and invoked the wrath of the little box this week. I won't waste everybody's time but if someone has any information, let me know. What happend is I disconnected the tach and the pump would stop in a few seconds; this tells me that there is a pulse counting relay somewhere, like VW Rabbits, etc. Thanks for allowing me to enter, I hope that I will be able to contribute something to these pages.

Hi-- I am new to the forum, and I drive an old '89 Rusty Justy 4WD GL hatchback that runs pretty good. I did a lot of rust repair on it, some pretty serious on the frame, but got it past the inspector. Will gladly share my "trade-secrets" if any one wants to know how I did it. I need a little help from anyone out there that know where I can find a good used carb for reasonable price. It's a Hitachi DFC328 model. I particularly need the duty-solenoid for one. Thanks on that.

I saw this old post, and wanted to reply for the general edufication of the community. I hope it is helpfull:

I usually get a mechanic to do it (I notice that I occasionally have axle carrier bearing problems after I do), but now I am interested in doing it myself. I have a factory repair manual that indicates that you have to use a special tool to extract/replace the axle from the carrier (and I suspect none of the mechanics I have employed in the past have not used this tool, and they probably just use a hammer to drive the axle out, thus the damage to the carrier bearings). I have used Autozone axles (which can be poor quality, even though they may carry a lifetime warrantee. I notice they either click or the rubber boots go bad quickly; nevertheless, because the price is right, I may continue to use these unless anybody has a better idea. Thus, I need to be ready to replace the axles frequently). Does anybody have experience in this? Is it truly damaging to the axle bearing to drive out the axle with a hammer? Is so. what are my alternatives? (I doubt I will be able to get hold of one of those special pullers/drivers). Anybody have suggestions about a good source for axles?
Friend--I have done the job you want to do on my '86 GL-10 wagon. I used Subaru supplied re-built axels for about $150 each. They have not given any trouble.

Buy a BIG gear puller (with a pointed screw thing on the end-you turn it and it advances-right?) Take off the two ( or three ) big claw things by removing the bolts. Now replace the claws with pieces of chain that you can bolt to the studs and lug nuts of your hub. Take your time and get it set up right. Turn the screw and push those babies outta there! Of Course you have to get under the car and loosen /remove mounting bolts for the 'control' or 'A' arms, so the axel will have room to come out. Hold up the hub with wire so you don't hurt the brake-line.

Before you put your new axels in, just take some Emory Cloth about 120 grit, and carefully lap the new axel stubs down so the will just slide in the hubs. Work a little on all sides from the end, and keep trying the fit to see how you're doing. You will think you can't, but you can do it in 15-30 minutes per. Before you know it, it will start to go in and you will get so happy! It's easy! I think the only reason its a press fit is to keep you tied to the shop (Subaru shop. )

Good Luck

Nice to be here. Purchased from my Mom last March her 89 XT GL Subaru. Was her middle age crisis sporty car. Was garage kept and had 18k original miles.

It is in pristine condition inside and out.

Default Just got here.

My Partner's son has a 87 Loyale with issues, but he is a cook so is good with knives and a grill. Not too good with the tool kit. After a year and a half it's lost power and other issues. Anyway, just got back from Nelson B.C. and helping him do the old Cap, Rotor ,plugs, air filter & fuel filter for a start. His 4wd seems to pop out sometimes, it's push botton and his Haynes manual has very little on it? Any ideas?

Default 1989 gl wagon with Ea82 ohc fi engine

Hey fellow old schoolers, I have an 89 gl wagon that I bought wrecked from a title pawn place near my work for $200. So over about 3 years I have been tinkering around and have finally got it all together and ready for the road. I have done the basics as far as a tune up: plugs, wires, distrib cap & rotor, timing belts. It has 217k on it starts and runs great maybe a bit of smoke when you first crank it up. After running a few minutes such as a trip around the block the check engine light comes on and will reset if shut off for a few mins. I live in the metro Atlanta Georgia area so the old girl still has to go through the old wand up the pipe gig (emissions testing) it actually did fairly well but failed the HC ppm (hydrocarbons) at idle 360/220. The level at 2500 rpm was really great though 59/220 way below alllowed level of 220. So i guess that would be the same as running ritch @ idle. I went to Auto Zone to see if they had a chance of reading the trouble code. I pretty much got the usual "Im sorry sir you want a part for what?" reply.
So if any of you old schoolers out there could give me some advice in which direction I should go in I would be greatly appreciative.

Hey folks (especially the n00bs), this stickey is just for saying hi and stuff.
If you have questions about your Old School Subaru, please post them in the
regular forum. I rarely come here to read any of the post and I certainly wont answer any questions here. So post any questions or problems in the general
Old School Forum.
Thanks, have fun and please come again

Too bad the post is late, I just through out my oem steering wheel, switch and 4 keys about 3 weeks ago while cleaning up my shed.

I may be wrong but maybe another subaru vehicle may fit. You could also always go with electric.

If you cant find anything you could use a toggle switch and button, or just push button.

I know I have seen generic keyed switches at autozone, napa but not sure how they work.

I have toggle/ PB on my 73 DL but its a race car.
