He did mention my front plate, but let me off with a warning. We had a good laugh though, and he was an awesome guy. All except for the ticket he wrote ha.
I saw you get pulled over as I was walking into my garage.

Who wrote the citation?

There is the State of Alaska (13 AAC 04.223) code and the Municipality of Anchorage (AMC 09.36.045) code.

This is on the Muni site...http://www.muni.org/Departments/poli...edWindows.aspx

Violations are considered correctable or "fix it" traffic offenses. The citation will indicate zero points, with a $150 fine and $10 surcharge if the deficiency is not corrected within a specified amount of time. The corrected vehicle and copy of the citation must be taken to APD Headquarters where a tint meter will be used to confirm the correction.

The SOA fine is also $150 plus the $10 surcharge.

Which code were you actually cited for?

It shows your citation is $150 for a tint violation.

If there has been a change is fine amounts, I can't find it. That document if from 2009 and appears to have been posted to the Muni website in Jan. 2012.

Thank you, BJ, this will honestly help A LOT.
I plan on bringing both documents to court and get this brought down to 150.

I might sound dumb here... But he might be charging you for the side windows ($150) then for the windshield (another $150) making it a total of $300.

Not sure if there's a reason, or way he can charge things separately like that.

It very well could be however, to me, the law doesn't seem to be written that way.

It states: Except as provided in this section, no person may drive a motor vehicle upon a highway or a vehicular way or area with aftermarket tinting material or aftermarket striping material on any window of the vehicle.

He'll not know till he takes it before the court although it should have been clearly explained if that was the case when he got the ticket.

Contest it, it costs nothing but a bit of time and you stand to make over $300 in this case.

I fought my two window tickets and got it down to one...so you shouldn't have a problem if that's what he's trying to do.

Back in 2006/2007 I got a $90 ticket for no front plate on my RS. Contested down to $45.

My ticket was $310 earlier this year, not OG enuff for front windshield, yes, plus I find it pointless since, despite my bragging, I figured I'd have to replace the windshield from getting cracked eventually (and I'm correct).

I tend to agree with this. There may be 2 different statutes for percentage of window tint on each selection of windows, BUT, the citation is only for illegal tint, regardless of which window.

It would be akin to getting 2 tickets because BOTH tailights were out. We dont get 2 tickets do we? no, we get one. I also believe it is still a correctable offense.

I would most definitely fight it, AND I would begin contacting your local representative letting them know the overzealous-ness of the police double ticketing of a correctable offense. Hell, I'm contemplating doing that myself. The APD needs to be reigned in from their illegal acts. The other day I saw a cop flick his lights on coming onto an overpass, speed through the intersection, got onto the highway and into the fast lane then flipped off his lights, all teh while weaving. I wished I was close enough to video/get his car number.

After seeing how much Kyle is going through a PITA, and most of us have already...

Maybe your dad is just preventing you from going through the same ****. Do you have the pockets to pay for a tint ticket?

I wouldn't tint the windshield and I was only going with 20%. I don't have the pockets so I would take it off if a cop gave me any trouble.

20% is still dark enough to get pulled over.

Yea 20% is very dark and usually what most get (and what most also get pulled over for)

Unless it's just the back windows, anything under 15-20% is dangerous in my opinion. At night you can hardly see out the damn window at 20 or less.

5% is way over the top (From ticket above) There is no reason to EVER need to go that dark even with prescription, most sunglasses are only 30-40%.

AMC9.36.045(A and B) was revised on January 12th, 2012 with a new fine amount of $300.

I'm looking at the bail codes as released from Courtview now...

Yeah, dark tint is not for the faint of heart.
To be honest, I don't enjoy crushing as much as I used to because the the extra attention that can possibly be drawn from police.
Though today I've had multiple offices cruise next to me and not even give me a second look.

I'm at the point now where I can just remove my front windows and windshield and be happy since I now know what it looks like.

Save the money and time you will spend on tinting, removing tint, going down to the police station to have them release the ticket and then re-tinting... and put it into the rest of that TO DO list you have going.

And you don't want to move out... you'll NEVER find a shop/garage, etc. with that much room, heated floors, free tools and utilities
