Default Pros & cons between boost gauges

I am looking to get a boost gauge soon but was wondering the pros and cons between the mechanical and electrical. I have turned to the experts for info. I will probably be getting the Prosport gauge as the seem nice and not that all expensive. They currently have the mechanical in WRX green but will come out with the electrical next month. I will also be getting the pod from Subiegal to install it. I dont want a garish piller pod.

Mechanical: Cheap and easy
Electrical: No tubing running into the cabin, spiffy features like peak recall, warning, etc.

What about reliablility & accuracy??

I'm curious too... would like to have the warning feature

mechanical has the POSSIBILITY of being both more reliable and more accurate. an electronic gauge is nothing but a mechanical pressure sensor hooked up to electronics to generate an analog signal. You have the same parts as a mechanical gauge, but also a bunch of extra ones to convert the mechanical pressure sensing into an analog signal, and then electronic and mechanical components to display it. a pure mechanical gauge is much, much simpler.

for this reason accuracy of a mechanical gauge can also be higher. fewer parts to need calibrating. one argument is that it won't respond as quick, but keep in mind PRESSURE waves travel at the speed of sound in the tubing.

all that said, you get what you pay for. a really good high end mechanical boost gauge might be better then a bargain basement electronic. (or just as easily the other way around)
