Default No Limit - GRB STI Precision 6266 full build

Whats up guys? I thought I would journal a build we are doing for a customers car as it is happening really fast, and I have not seen many GRB's with a engine build like this one. Goal is to have the car done by end of October as long as everything goes according to the plan.

It is a 2009 GRB STi stock besides an Invidia Q300. It came to us with a spun rod bearing. (not sure of the details of that, don't care).

Here are the mods that are getting done. Goal of the car is 500whp or more on pump gas using Precision Turbo's new 6266. Customer did not want to do E85 fuel (unfortunately), nor did he want to port the heads or sleeve the motor. No good stand-a-lone exists for the 08+ cars so we are going to try it on MAF and POSSIBLY new Cobb speed density. I think it has it in it, but we will find out

Engine (bottom end)
EJ257 Nitride Crankshaft
Manley 8.5:1 Pistons
Manley Turbo Tuff I Beam Rods
ARP Headstuds
ACL Race Bearings
New 11mm Oil Pump
New OEM Oil Cooler (always replace these on blown engines)
Denso IKH24 Spark Plugs (2 steps colder)

Heads
GSC Beehive Springs/Retainers
GSC S2 Camshafts
Supertech Inconel Valves
Cosworth Head Gaskets .78mm
Torque Solution Air Pump Delete
Grimmspeed TGV deletes

Fueling
Agency Power Fuel Rails
Fuel Injector Clinic 1100cc top feed injectors
Full Blown Motorsports 340LPH Fuel Pump
Aeromotive Fuel Pressure Regulator + Fuel Pressure Gauge

Turbo/Exhaust
Extreme Turbo Systems Rotated Turbo Kit - V-band up-pipe/V-band Downpipe
Extreme Turbo Systems FMIC
Precision Turbo 6266 CEA Ball Bearing V-Band Inlet/Outlet .82 A/R
Tial 44 MV-R Wastegate
Tial Q Blow Off Valve
HKS Equal Length Headers
Invidia Q300 Cat-Back

Driveline

Torque Solutions Pitch Stop Mount
ACT Heavy Duty Clutch - 6 Puck Sprung Disc
ACT Streetlite Flywheel

Misc.

Crawford V2 Air Oil Separator
SMY Dual Gauge Cluster
AEM Boost Gauge
AEM UEGO Wideband
Hallman Pro Manual Boost Controller
Cobb Accessport V2

Here are some pictures of how it sits right now. Motor will be back from getting bored out in a couple days than assembly starts. Turbo kit won't be here for about 3 weeks.

Here is a look at the fuel system components we are going to be using. (except for the rails)

We have been having great luck with the Full Blown fuel pumps. We have found that they run cooler than the competition yet flow the same. They clip right into the factory harness and include a new filter.

Notice the unique look of the Fuel Injector Clinic 1100cc injectors. For a high horsepower pump gas Subaru look no further. They have that extra bit of edge over 1000cc, they tune and run excellent and easy, and the price is great. A decent bit below the competition.

Lastly wrapping it up is the Aeromotive compact regulator. Nice and small which makes it very easy to find a mounting place, and includes the fittings pre-installed to boot. Helps us dial the fuel pressure exactly where we need it, and help keep it rock solid. The Marshall liquid filled fuel pressure gauge helps us when setting pressure and make sure all is functioning as it should.

Change of plans. Decided 6266 would be more fitting for this. We are finding the spool difference between the 6262 and 6266 to be minimal

Lets take a look at the internals we are using for this build

We love the 2618 forged Manley pistons with there uber-thick ultra beefy design, and skirt coating. They also include premium piston rings that gap just right.

In addition we are using Manleys made in USA "Turbo Tuff" I beam rod. We recommend these for builds going over 550whp

You can see the difference between the H beams (which are also a very good rod if you are on a budget) and the more expensive stronger I beam

Our turbo came in today from Precision. It is there brand new ball bearing 6266 billet CEA. What is interesting about Precision's ball bearing center section vs a brand like Garrett is that it is ONLY oil cooled. No need for extra water lines.

The turbo we are using is with a ported S cover (4" inlet, 2.5" discharge) and features there V-band inlet with 3" V-band outlet. A/R is .82

...and now for the pictures

Comparison to VF39

So what's the deal with the 6266, what makes it different than the 6262?

6262 is 62mm compressor, and 62mm turbine.

6266 is 62mm compressor, and 66mm turbine.

Depends what GTX your talking about. It is smaller than an HTA86 (62mm inlet/86mm exhaust)...

Just waiting on GSC to get me the cams and this thing can start going together.

The HTA86 is only a compressor wheel upgrade. The inducer is 62mm but the exducer is 86mm vs the standard 82mm. The exhaust side however is just a stock GT35R wheel so the 6266 is a bit larger in all areas especially the exhaust wheel except for the exducer of the compressor wheel.

Just got back from SEMA. Time to start assembling the motor.

Turbo kit is due to be here from ETS this week, that's the only thing that may hold us up.

The turbo kit has arrived!!!! Basically full v-band turbo kit. The only gaskets on the car are motor to header, header to up-pipe, and downpipe to catback... I might have to handle that for a full v-band setup

All up-pipe to turbo, turbo to downpipe, and downpipe connections are wonderful v-bands

Sexy welds and wastegate transition. Expect nothing but the best from ETS. Never a disappointment

Built in 02 simulator, and more perfect welds

Yummmm more sexy welds on the 2 piece V-band downpipe

Best up-pipe ever? I think so

Why hello there giant perfect front mount core!

Every bit of hardware included

More pictures tomorrow....

Ok the kit is not fully installed yet. Still need to put on a couple intercooler pipes and the intake, but at this point it is safe to say it is the best fitting turbo kit we have ever seen/worked with. I will never use anything else.

Every single piece needed was included. Every bracket PERFECT. No fighting with anything for fitment

Engine on the stand getting buttoned up. We used the HKS equal length header.

Here you can see the v-band up-pipe

Some pictures of the front mount

About to drop the engine in

As it was when I left last night

As it sits right now. Need to run the fuel lines/regulator and than put the remaining pieces on. Should be done by 6pm ready to break in, and tune

Great write up so far! I can't wait to see the results of this build. I like the attention to detail.

Thanks,
