Since this was bumped...

The finished unit is sitting in my shipping department. We have just been trying to coordinate with Flatirons Tuning and the customer they located as the tester to get this thing into a car and take it the next step. But it is not forgotten. It will be in the next few weeks.

Sorry i haven't updated much on my 4eat LSD, i've been taking it easy on the car during break-in, so i haven't been able to see how the diff reacts in situation with high horsepower, but i'm getting dyno'd this weekend, so i'll be posting in the PPB forum about my numbers and I should be able to make some observations on how the diff reacts when i really try and put down the power.

I think that would be ClimberD. Lemme check with the Legacy Board.

Leonardo,
ClimberD sent me his stock differential and ring gear for a sample. But his car will not be the first install.

We need to work with someone local where I can personally talk with the tech doing the work and be on hand if any problems arise or anything like that. We need to be sure that we've got it right and haven't overlooked anything before we cut more of these and start sending them out. It's also got to be someone who understands that this is a test and that we might need to rip his car back apart if something isn't right.

Yea, i've had a full built IPT trans since late 07. It's a nice setup, shifts great, stalls high, holds all the power i've got, unfortunately though the resistor that they use to trick the TCU into jacking up the line pressure was throwing a CEL on my car, and they had to pull it out. Believe it or not that little resistor made a big difference in the over-all feel of the trans.

I appreciate the offer but it's just not logistically feasible. But don't worry, we'll take care of you for your participation in this. I'm not the type of guy to forget about that sort of thing.

I delivered it to Flatirons a week or so ago. I'll check with them on the status next week. I've been out of town all week doing trackside testing on the 6spd sequential gearbox...

climberd is getting the (or just got) the sample above (as it appears Flatirons dropped the ball) so we will have him test fit/try it and wait for his feedback.

Special thanks to Matt and climberD

I do apologize for the delay, but we are still moving forward with this. Though our local test platform fell through, we will still be helping to install the diff in the front section of climberD's transmission when it arrives. Hopefully all will go well and then this will be available to anyone else that is interested.

I hope it goes well too or my wife will be slightly unhappy

In all seriousness I'm looking forward to trying it.

I'm glad we were able to find a workable solution to this...

I think when my trans gets pulled it may be getting more done to it than just a new front diff

Bump...
So what happened? Was it the 4eat LSD that got milled down to fit the 5eat ring gear?

Update on the test car?

They used the 4eat torque sensing diff as the platform, and adapted it to 5eat fitment. You will have to ask either of the guys involved in making it how exactly they did it. What I retained from the conversation is that I really want to be running this diff.

As for test fitment, a LOT has happened with me in the way of transmissions. I now own 3 . Weather in TX has gotten really nice recently so now I am able to do a trans swap (mind you just weeks ago it was literally freezing here, and I do not do swaps in freezing conditions).

As the series of events will go, I will be purchasing the guinea pig test diff.

Bud please feel free to hound me directly since I am ashamed to say I have been the bottleneck lately. I don't mind the kick in the pants to get this moving for everyone. Mod season is right around the corner, and I don't want to keep anyone from the extra edge in autocross!

Yes, I disassembled the differential and sent the top half off to a local machine shop to remove approximately 10mm from it to bring the ring gear back to where it needs to be. As best we can tell there are no other differences between 4EAT and 5EAT. I will be going over to Flatirons Tuning once the gearbox case arrives to inspect things more closely and see if there's anything we've overlooked.
