Cool

Cool that looks like the one that I pulled off of my old 99 RS and replaced it with an unorthodox under driven pulley that was on it for 5 years. The only downside that I had was the dimming of the headlights and dash lights when it idled and that was with the stock battery it also lasted 5 years. I still regret trading her in. Ah well. I still have that pulley but I haven't tried to install it onto my STI yet because I got it used and the previous owner installed an amp that is driving the speakers from an aftermarket stereo and I don't know how those will hold up to the power loss at idle.

I refuse to believe that Subaru deals with the cost/effort of having a crank pulley made with a rubber insert for all of their motors... just for giggles.

I heard aluminum pulleys can slip in cold weather, does anyone know if there's any truth to that?

The anodizing causes a slick surface.

I run a perrin crank pully and a light FW and no prob. You just have to have the car tuned for them and it will run like a baby. The only prob i have, not really a prob, is that when i have the A/C running, my rpms drop very fast between shifts and that causes my shifting to be a lil retarded; need to shift really fast for it to be smooth. And the 2nd issue is when i am in 5th and 6th gear and the rpms drop under 3k and i try to accelerate the car shakes like hell, but as soon it passes that 3k rpm mark it ir smooth. Don't have this prob in 1st,2nd,3rd,4th gear.

I've never heard having to get tuned for a lightweight crank pulley. You're decreasing the rotational mass....how do you tune for that?

It seems the Flat 4 is a naturally balancing system like Inline6 and V8s & V12s.
Which of course is not to be confused with Inline4 which has balancing issues.

A search on Google will show alot more posts on the subject; I chose to just post the simplest and best website that explained it and the one that most other websites link to also.
True the boxer engine os naturally balanced

You can write in English. He’ll get over it. He’s just upset because he can’t write anything in another language.

He’s just a bum. Ignore his ignorance.

I'd somehow inspect the OEM pulley from time to time. My friend had the rubber delaminate (correct term?) and the outer piece of the pulley started wearing into the covers.

Come to think of it, we only noticed it when we replaced the timing belt. Wondering how the car started and drove "fine" from the time it delaminated to the time we decided to replace the timing belt.

Fluidampr is a better aftermarket replacement than any LW pulley.

15+ years and counting still not one actual issue of a LCP being installed on a Subaru EJ and FB/FA
This is still my favorite mod to install on all of my Subaru's, easy install great upgrade for throttle response.
