Reputable shop to rebuild 6MT around central Ohio?
I assumable broke my input shaft, so I will be installing longer gears while its apart. I need to find a shop within a reasonable drive (2-3hrs) from Central Ohio. My goal is to keep labor under $1k. Thanks for any help
I didn't post in my regional forum because its weird and doesn't include most of Ohio's surrounding states. Plus I figured I would get more traffic here.

Good looking out Uncle Scotty, helpful as always
Splat, that is exactly what I wanted to hear. Thank you very much. TiC was the first place I thought of. I figured they get overloaded with random emails and calls, so I wanted to do my homework first. I will be getting ahold of them as soon as I pull my transmission and order the Rallispec gears. |

There is absolutely no reason I need to talk to TiC first, unless it was to see if they could get me a better price on the Rallispec gears. Unlike half the people on this forum, I know what I want from my car, and how I want to go about getting it. I don't need constantly spoon fed.
Unibomber, any kind of help on a discount would be much appreciated. Thank you kindly sir |

P&L would be my choice.

That is assuming they will even touch your gears... lots of shops will not do an install like this with gears you brought in yourself, as they can't offer any warranty any more, and risk getting a bad name. (much like the food example above, not many restaurants would grill up your steak, and if they did, they would just charge you the menu price anyway) So yes, the FIRST thing you want to do is start calling around. Talk to them, see what gears they offer, and then ask if you can bring in your own if they don't have what you are looking for. Ordering gears first is a really bad choice. *disclaimer, found a restaurant in key largo last week that advertizes for people to bring in whatever fish they caught that day and they will grill it up. So that is probably the one exception in the nation!) |

If that is the case, I have already spoken with Andrewtech before I made this thread. They are fine with me ordering the Rallispec gears and shipping them everything. I just don't want to pay for shipping the 6MT to them. |

If P&L were local, that would be great. But unfortunately they are not within driving distance which was the whole point of this thread.
I love this forum. Only one person actually answers my question, and I get worthless conjecture from everyone else. Last edited by liv4psi; 10-12-2012 at 03:32 PM. |

Make that two.
I just texted TiC, and they said they can handle you fine. Call them at (513) 860-3508 and let Clint know I hollered at you as he will probably give you a small discount for my referral. |

From looking at the gear ratio sticky that Fuji K made, the rallispec tall gears is the legacy spec b gearset. Maybe check both TiC and Rallispec to see where you can get the better price on it?

If you don't want to ship your gearbox, pick up the phone and have a conversation with Clint and see if he can help you before you assume he can't and get your panties all bunched up on NASIOC. In the time you have spent telling us to shut up, you could have already talked to Clint and made an appt. to get your gearbox fixed... |

I never assumed TiC couldn't help, actually it was the opposite. I assumed they could help me. It is silly to think any shop wouldn't install brand new OEM Subaru parts because they were purchased elsewhere. It was everyone else posting I need to talk to them first, which I don't. All I said was, if they won't install the gearset I want, I will find another shop that will. Last edited by liv4psi; 10-12-2012 at 03:34 PM. |

Thank you very much Ron. I already emailed them and got an answer right away. I will be sure to name drop once I am visiting the shop.

I know Uncle Scotty. I am trying to be one of the koooool kids because I like doing my own homework and not wasting my mechanics time. I wonder how many dozens of emails TiC gets everyday from potential customers who aren't ready to spend any money yet. I preferred not to join that list.
Read through my post history. 95% of them are helping out the people in general/newbie forum that you like to make fun of. I made one thread asking for transmission shop recommendations, and I am everything that is wrong with Nasioc. Too funny. Just for anyone who comes across this, TiC responded to my emails lightning fast. Their rebuild price was 25% less than Rallispec, and they have no problem installing parts that aren't bought directly for them. Last edited by liv4psi; 10-12-2012 at 04:28 PM. |

Just realized I forgot to thank both of you for the help. EROCS04- I appreciate the offer, but I will be using all new parts. nappingcub- Thanks for suggestions. I came across that same info during my research of choosing what ratios I wanted. At first glance Rallispec's pricing seems very reasonable, but I will shop around some. I don't know which I'm more excited about, having the STI back on the road or breaking into the 11's next spring |

Way to stand up to the idiots and trolls (Uncle Snotty)
Believe it or not there are a more than "a few" places in the US that are very good at rebuilding a 6MT. It is more complicated... A local shop will not touch them... But there are shops capable of the voodoo required |

I just really hate when people want me to ask a shop how to build my car. I am capable of doing my own research and picking what I choose is the best course of action for my goals.
TiC and Rallispec have both been great to deal with. Rallispec shipped my gearset directly to TiC. and I will have barely over $2k invested |
