Default Anyone ever have loose steering issue?

Last year my Subaru (2012 2.0i Sport Premium Hatchback) started randomly getting loose steering only when turning left.

Resistance of the wheel will be the same turning left and right, and then all of a sudden, turning left has almost no resistance.

Mechanic tried to look and said tie rods are fine and can't tell what's going on.

I'm going to have another mechanic look at it and see if he can dig deeper.

Basically, sometimes while I am taking a left turn, holding the steering wheel at regular resistance for that turn, all of a sudden it breaks loose so I accidentally turn even more. A little scary.

I have a 2012 that has had lots of stuff wrong with it, all wheel bearings were crap from factory, fb oil consumption recall.

But steering is perfect. 180k going strong.
Edit: base sedan manual if that helps...

That car has electric power steering. When you have that issue do you ever see a "steering wheel" light on your instrument cluster? Are your check engine/ABS lights on? It could simply be your steering angle sensor going bad, but you need to find a shop that has ability to pull more than just basic OBDII codes/data.
