Default How to change ATF????

Hi there. I am looking for instructions on to change ATF for 2000 Legacy GT. I can't seem to find any info on that. I did a search before and found out that if you just drain it, 1/2 fluid gets trapped in the system, so you only changing 1/2. It's still probably good. Anyways, lets get back to real answer??? Anyone has instructions???? Thanks????

there is a drain pan similar to an oil pan underneath the car a bit further back than the oil pan. You can drain that and i think get 4 or 5 quarts out of that because there is still fluid in the tranny and torque converter. You refill it from the tranny oil dipstick thing. You just hook up a funnel to it and pour the amount that you took out you dont want to over fill it.

Default RE: Tranny fluid swap

I think he may be looking for a step-by-step on changing all fluid and replacing the filter... I was curious about this too. Anyone know of a good site with instructions? I've done the drain and refill, but I think at 110K my baby needs the whole thing done...

Thanks

According to Pitre subaru here in az the trans oil filter is a lifetime part . as far as a drain and fill just drop it with the drain plug . dump in 1.5 qts start , idle in park , check dipstick , if at least full to cold mark , run through gears , check again . then all done . repeat in 15000 to really clean out .

* Change every 30,000 miles or 24 months
- Before beginning work, purchase the specified transmission fluid
- Other tools necessary for this job include jackstands, a wrench, a drain pan capable of holding at least 8 quarts, newspapers and clean rags.
- Drain the fluid after it has been brought up to normal operating temp.
- Raise the vehicle and put it on jackstands.
- Drain the fluid into the pan. The plug is on the bottom of the fluid pan, toward the rear. Be sure to re-install plug.
- Lower vehicle.
- With engine off, add new fluid through the dipstick tube. It is best to add a little, then keep checking with the dipstick. Allow fluid time to drain into the pan.
- Start the engine, then shift the selector into all positions from park through Low, then shift into park and apply the parking brake.
- With engine idling, check the fluid level. add fluid up to the lower level on the dipstick.
