Default ACT Heavy Duty Performance Street Disc Clutch Kit

Towards the end of last year, I was in need of a clutch replacement. I wrote a review about the shop that installed it but wanted to wait till the clutch was broken-in to review the clutch itself. Since my factory clutch lasted to about 135k miles. I was interested in replacing my worn clutch with another factory unit. I spoke with my local shop who has done maintenance and various upgrades on my vehicle over the years. The owner suggested going with an ACT Heavy Duty Performance Street Disc Clutch Kit vs an OEM unit based on my modifications. They also said they have installed many of them without issue. As I looked around for clutches, I read various reviews. I really wasn't feeling what I was reading about many aftermarket clutches. Still...I knew it was probably a better idea to go with an upgraded unit based on my vehicle modifications.

I finally just decided to go with the clutch recommended by my installer. I am very happy with the new clutch and don't regret it at all. The new engagement point took some getting used to at first. The clutch was engaging a lot quicker than the previous clutch and was much easier to stall. The clutch felt a little heavier but not anything to complain about. The additional pressure needed to disengage the clutch wasn't as much of a learning curve as the new engagement point. After getting used to it I don't notice the difference at all anymore though. Its as smooth as the factory one ever was and I have not experienced any additional noise that some people have described. I have put about 1k miles on the new clutch now and I'm not expecting that I should see any additional changes.

Yep, same clutch I use or tend to install on NA Subarus.
Agreed, very low clutch engagement, took part of a day to get used to coupled with a light (12lb) flywheel. made it interesting jumping from that to another Subaru and then back.
Local carwash had me drive it onto the track, they kept stalling it.

I have had good luck with them, will still keep using them.

I love mine. It takes a bit to break in but does a great job.

Solid review! ***128170; Sounds like the ACT Heavy Duty clutch was the right move for your setup. That quick engagement and slightly heavier pedal are common but definitely manageable once broken in. Glad it’s running smooth and holding up well after 1k miles. Thanks for sharing — helpful info for anyone debating between OEM and performance clutches!

Thanks! Glad you found it helpful. I have a few more reviews I am going to write up soon regarding multiple parts and since I installed/will be installing them there will be more detailed information.
