You shouldn't be. The rumor is that the league asked the Packers to submit the rule change on their behalf (because someone has to propose it, Goodell can't make a change just because). If you look at the numbers, the Packers were actually more successful than most teams in stopping the tush push, and we also ran it a few times ourselves with success (usually with Tucker Kraft). It doesn't make sense that the Packers would want it banned.

The league office (Goodell/other higher ups) and probably a few other owners were the ones who wanted it banned. They used the Packers as a scapegoat to be the ones to propose the rule change because the Packers are the only team without an owner. Mark Murphy is the closest thing we have being the President and he's retiring next month so even if it passed, he'd be in Cancun enjoying his retirement anyway instead of answering media and doing interviews about it. The Packers essentially "took one for the team" on behalf of the league and other owners who were against the tush push.

I wouldn't be surprised if the league told Murphy, "hey, we gave you the 2025 draft, now scratch our backs and propose this rule change for us on your way out".

Mike Florio said he heard this through one of his sources. He's a very well connected guy, a huge Vikings fan and a well-known Packers hater, so if he's putting his name out there on an article basically defending the Packers, I'm inclined to believe him and his sources.

Is it too soon for the "OH no/anyway" meme?

Oh, ok.

So they were just manipulated into being a scapegoat. That makes it totally better.

The point I'm trying to make is that I don't think anyone who actually does football stuff on the Packers (coaches/players) cares if they ban it or not. Most of them would probably prefer that they not ban it, given that they run it themselves.

I'm also not saying that it makes it "better" that we were made a scapegoat but rather pointing out what happened behind the scenes because I think it's an important distinction. Most people just read the headlines saying "Packers want to ban tush push" and think "those guys are a bunch of wimps who are crying because they lost to the Eagles" without understanding the how and why of this proposal.

That's the downside of not having an owner, the league can use the Packers to push their agenda and have them take the heat. There are also upsides, though. We don't have billionaire bozos who shouldn't be involved in football operations making dumb executive decisions that cripple their franchise (see: Browns, Cowboys).

Throw Rogan is claiming multiple people in his life have cancer and that's why he hasn't signed with the Steelers yet.

Seems like a convenient excuse when it's well documented how much he hates mini/training camp.
