![]() So I have not been on these forums for years but thought it would be interesting to see where folks are now from a car perspective...
Like what cars have you had since upgrading from your old Subaru WRX... Maybe we all have got into the same types of cars since owning a Subaru WRX. For example I had a 2002 WRX, and a 2007 WRX STI and then went on to get a a few AUDI S3's, Audi RS3's, Corvettes, Hellcats, Mustangs etc.

![]() 01 2.5RS sedan, 07 WRX LTD w/STi 6 speed. Now Wrangler 4 door that I offroad, tow with and plow snow and 19 Crosstrek Premium manual, lowered on springs 1.2 inches. Looking for a fun car. Last one (07 Lotus Elise) was sold when son was in college. Nothing hits me to buy like cars in the past. Perhaps a Lotus Emira would be my best choice. Not sure still. Considering stuff all over the map. CT4-V Blackwing manual, BRZ ts, Q50 Red Sport 400, Z4 M40i and even going up from my 10 year old Wrangler to a new Rubicon.

![]() 2004 WRX wagon. Stock except for 17" wheels and a k&n air filter. 20 years. Only owner. Still driving it.
Just bought a 2024 Volvo v60 polestar. Loving it as the family car. Studying up on Porsche. Liking the 981 gts. |

![]() I looked at the Genesis G70 3.3 AWD and Nissan Z performance. (The Q50 Red Sport looks good too). Haven't driven yet. I want some power.
I drove the first two. I'm leaning towards the Z, but the Genesis has a nice trunk. 400HP right off the showroom floor. I've been driving Subaru's 20 yrs. I am beyond disappointed with the direction Subaru and the FA motor has gone in. Unless reliability is your primary goal, 271 HP is laughable and under performing in today's landscape. I still have 2 EJ's for now. The motors have gone from premiere to weak sauce. For me, its a sad ending to a great 20 yrs. ![]() Last edited by shadowsports; 10-27-2024 at 10:11 AM. |

Still have my 04 WRX wagon -only owner, 21 years, 160k. Still a blast. Mostly used in winter and for mountain biking/fishing and Home Depot runs. My daily is a 16 BRZ. My weekend toy is a base 14 cayman with soul long tube headers, PSE, a tune and X73 suspension- perfect weekend mountain car. Get any 981 they are all great and the sound with headers is crazy good. Here is my car |

![]() I have the AWD Stinger 3.3 twin turbo, basically identical car to the G70 other than slight body differences.
It's way quicker than my STI was. I do miss the manual trans, and the STI did handle better because it was way lighter. But the stinger is drastically nicer inside, much better ride, way faster acceleration despite it's extra weight. Turbo lag is virtually non existent, even at 1500 rpm's that thing hits peak boost in one second. If you are at 3000+ it might as well be supercharged it builds so fast. |

My STI was modded slightly as well to increase peak boost 3 psi, so if anything it was a better representation. And that compared to the stock stinger it was still noticeably slower. I'm not saying an 8 speed auto vs a manual 6 speed isn't a factor because obviously modern autos with more gears crush manuals. I'm also not saying the stinger is a genuinely more fun car to drive because it isn't. I only got it because my STI got totalled after they stopped making the STI. but it's faster like it or not |

![]() Haven't been on for years as well. Still have my 09 WRX but funny enough I'm coming back to the forums this week as I've just picked up an '11 FXT bone stock over the weekend.
Owned the WRX since new, 1 owner 130k. Moved on to Toyotas & Lexus with 2 LS400s, 2 IS300s, a GX470, SC400 that i'm currently doing a manual swap on and daily a First Gen Tundra Double cab. its funny all the Toyotas are dead reliable, who woulda ever thought that? ![]() |

![]() Have had an 08 STI hatch since before a family - now that we're up to 3 + big dog, pretty sure it's going to be posted here for sale soon. Really thought being a hatch it would solve all problems I could throw at it - but it's too racer, and I'm tired of replacing rusting parts...
Interested in what others have moved too in a similar situation. |

![]() Had wanted to keep the GR STI until I was ready to go EV... that time might be now. Model Y or Ionic 5N (once it depreciates some). Then fun car on the side.

![]() Had a 2002 wrx with a 16g/6 speed setup from around 2007-08 until 2020. It sat for the last 3-4 years of its life and was the wife's daily for a few years before that. I moved on to racing superbikes and the Subaru/car bug had left for awhile. I considered a ZL1 Camaro before picking up my 2020 STi but I knew it wouldn't make me happy, I like to tinker and mod. It's a garage queen making ~650whp, exactly how I'd always wanted an STi to be. I have a truck as a daily now and the wife missed the wrx so she's back in a 2014 sti. I can't think of many "upgrade" cars that aren't +$50k. My truck has all the available options and getting in the 2014 is like home. No stupid screens and actual buttons, I prefer it to the 2020. The older I get the less impressed I am with added features and subscription based services to make my vehicle work (the nav in my truck needs Google maps). I've told the wife a few times she can take the truck and I'll have the car but she won't lol. It's good to be back, I don't care if there's faster cars, there's something just right about the STi when it's modified.

![]() I still have my 17 WRX that I got new. 97K miles on it. I’ve had the creaky clutch fork for several years now and need to replace it one of these days. Also had a couple other minor issues, but overall not a bad car.
I also got a 24 Supra last summer. It’s so much faster and more fun than the WRX, I have zero desire to mod the WRX any farther. |
