I have the Rallisport headers and can say they are fabulous. You wouldn't need a tune, but one wouldn't hurt. You might get a p0420 with any header change and even exhaust change, I do. I wish there were definitions for my year simply so I could delete the code but alas, no love for the NA...

Unless they are sticklers for OEM you can get Rallisports with a cat and keep the one in your midpipe as well. Stock headers don't look all that different if you remove the heat shields.... At least to the untrained eye.

Good thing I live in good ol' Wisconsin! As long as there's no CEL, I pass emissions.

The rear bracket worked fine on mine. Bought it from the dealership. Might need to fiddle with the bushings but they work. Don't forget some heavy grease.

The STi headers take a different route and don't have a cat. So even if you pass visual, you probably won't pass the sniffer.

The Rallisport headers at least take a similar route and have a cat. I'd put them on just after smog and keep them on. With 2 years of dirt/grime/corrosion, I doubt they'll fail visual. There are plenty of smog shops that either don't know what they're looking at or don't care.

Did you try putting on a o2 bung?

Different car I know but on my old cobalt we had the same problem when going cat less dp so we'd just make up a o2 bung so the sensor would barely make contact with the gases... Never once threw a code.

The new Impreza's don't like o2 sensor spacers like the old ones. Do not use them!

Fact. That's why I had to take off my Magnaflow catback. Took it to the subaru dealership and they couldn't find any way to get it to not throw a CEL with the 02 spacer/extender.

Can codes throw these cars into a "limp mode"? That's why we used bungs or just tuned the code out in the first place. If it just a light than I can deal

As far as I know the NA subis don't have a limp mode. Boosted ones do though. The CEL does little more than pose an annoyance and stop you from using cruise control.

Some people get it, some don't. Having the headers coated and/or wrapped can help. I plan to wrap mine soon to see if it fixes it.

New to subaru, alot of the shops around here tell you they arent very experienced with these cars. Thisbshop said it was a day and a half to replace the clutch. Well 6 estimated days it would be done and 2 days ago told me the tranny was out of the car and im still stuck.

Side note: I will never take it here again and wish I would have joined local groups for advice before handing over the keys to fix it.

Subaru's are so simple! I helped a buddy swap a n/a 2.2l in his 96' OBS and from start to finish it was 5.5 hours!!

Older motors were definitely easier than new ones, but today's aren't too bad. Wiring is a PITA though. Wish I had someone like you around here. Someone who digs/respects the NA and likes to wrench.

Nobody where I am respects NA imprezas except for 1 guy with a bagged forester and wrx and my friends with accords and civic Si's. Otherwise I get no love from the wrx/sti/lgt community.
