The new College Football thread
I think he did. FSU had some really good teams back then, how many National Championships would FSU have if they had kickers who could make field goals?

Look at the numbers. Tebow's are better. Ward may throw a prettier pass but how good it looks doesn't matter that much in college. NO WAY was he a better runner...different style and more elusive...yes...better....no. And as far as my bias you should look at my other posts in this thread to see how biased I am. Would Ward have one it if he played for Florida Atlantic? Didn't think so. No body would...winning the Heisman has a lot to do with talent and a lot to do with marketing and the school the player is at. |

Charlie was an incredible athlete and was a very productive Basketball player. He also made the final eight I think in 1993 or 1994 not sure. Great team with Bobby Sura,Charlie Ward and Sam Cassell. Quote:
He mainly played out of the shotgun set , but did go under center periodically. I guess FSU and Bowden really pioneered the Spread as they would go 5 wide with Ward in the Shotgun. My favorite play of all time is the 93 FSU/Florida game which Ward threw a bubble screen to Warrick Dunn for a Touchdown |

http://floridastate.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=198888 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tim_Tebow Charlie Ward is a much better athlete and had he played a full four years I'm sure his statistics would have been similar. I didn't even know that he was drafted to play baseball. As you said they are different type of runners. Tebow trys to run you over and Ward would just juke and jive you out of your cleats. Ward never never got the publicity that Tebow has gotten and people didn't worship him like Elvis I saw him two years ago and didn't even recognize him as he is thinner. Although Tebow did play baseball at Nease and from my understanding he was pretty good. |

The real frustration comes from dealing with the NCAA when Stoops and Co. are doing everything they can to run a clean and open program. The NCAA seems only to go after those schools who work with them the most regarding infractions and questionable situations, while ignoring those who handle things 'internally' or stall until it is forgotten, or the player(s) in question are long gone. I know FSU has and is fighting these battles with the NCAA, so that is one thing we have in common. In better news...I got billed for my 2 season tickets today Instead of getting mailed a set of tickets, they are letting us print them off at home during the week of the game, so no fancy ticket stubs for memories. OU v Texas tickets go on sale on September 1st and I'll be securing 2 tickets. |

TGC, if you need a place to crash, I live about 15 minutes from Arlington and Cowboy's stadium(pretty sure that's where the game is). We got a guest room if ya need it.

I had settled in for the game in southbend with ND VS USC this year, had the plans made, had the awesome coming....then corporate comes down with a "blackout" day starting the weekend of the game.
I had to give up my tickets My boss felt so bad that he gave me the stadium box seats for the huskers for 2 games, as nice as that is, and it's cool that I will get to see OU beat the crap out of NU....it's not gonna replace my ND V usc game. so instead of that game I get to go to the michigan game at the big house, and the conneticut game on the 21st. so the CFB season lines up ok sept 5th - corporate seats for nebraska sept 12th - ND V UM sept 26th - husker 300th consecutive sellout student section seats november 7th - Nu V OU corporate seats nov 21st Uconn @ southbend and that is the plan for college football this year for me and the wife, should be a fun time! |

No way is he a better runner? really? Well I guess it depends on what your definition of a good runner is. If you think John Riggins was a great "runner" then yes .....Tebow is a better runner. Thank you for proving my point. No doubt in my mind that Tebow is a "good" QB, but he isnt even the best QB to Step foot in the Swamp .....Ummm errrrrrr to be a student at UF. Tebow is a great kid, a good leader that just so happens to be surrounded by some of the best talent the college football world has seen ......with out at that talent .......... the name Tebow would be a whisper in the wind. |

Well I don't think that many QB's would be great without any talent at WR/RB, but that is just me. Obviously we could go back and forth all day long on the topic but it's not worth it. I know you are probably tired of seeing all the Tebow stuff, cause I am too. Also, just b/c I went to UF doesn't mean anything. I do know about other payers in the programs past. And thanks for the Kiffin vids! Made for a good laugh. |

Damn, that sucks. It looks like you will still get to go to some good games though. At least your boss showed you some type of sympathy and didn't just say oh well. |

He grew up in Muskogee (that's right an Okie from Muskokie) and was able to go to a few games throughout the years for free when he was a boyscout because they were stadium ushers. They didn't have the money to buy single game tickets or travel to games and he's always talked about finding the time to make it but has never been able to. Should be a good present Last edited by TGC; 08-21-2009 at 08:44 PM. |

Florida State responds to charge of reporting Oklahoma eligibility violation In response to erroneous media reports, Florida State University athletics would like to clarify its conversation with Oklahoma University as it pertains to the eligibility of Sooners linebacker Mike Balogun. Florida State's compliance office did contact the Oklahoma University compliance office after learning that Balogun had played in a semi-pro football league while watching the Jan. 9, 2009 television broadcast of the Bowl Championship Series national championship game. "The purpose of the inquiry to Oklahoma University was to gather information regarding a similar eligibility case involving former Florida State wide receiver Corey Surrency," said Brian Battle, FSU Associate Athletic Director for Compliance. "Florida State's compliance office did not contact the Big 12 or the NCAA." Surrency, who also played in a semi-pro football league beyond his 21st birthday, was denied a second year of eligibility by the NCAA following the school's appeal on April 28, 2009. "There was no ill intention on our part," Battle said. "It was merely |

Lou Holtz has finally done it. He's done the unthinkable.
Lou Holtz publically announces a UF v ND title game. http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=4416009 DUI, You've got to get your boy in check. He could get hurt going on TV and announcing blasphemies like perpetuating Charlie Weis' delusions of grandeur. |

^ they have 1 difficult game this year. If they win out they could potentially get to the BCS title game (if teams like OU, Texas, etc. have more than 1 loss).
If they did that though, the game would be similar to the 2007 Sugar Bowl where Brady Quinn was courageous in getting crushed by LSU. Last edited by tdm74; 08-23-2009 at 03:20 PM. |
