Default TiC SST on a 2011 GR

For me, after much anticipation, I got the following goodies put on my GR the other day:


That would be TiC SST with 7/8k springs, GT spec adjust rear control arm, Vorshlag plates up front.

Already on there:
WL adjustable F end links
COBB adjustable R end links.
WL F/R 22mm adjust sway bars set stiff
WL rear swaybar support

Ride Height:
Per the recommendation of TiC, the car is only dropped about .25". It looks a lot more to me, but that is what the measurement says. If you know anything about these coilovers, you know the crew at TiC spent a lot of time working loads of travel into the system.

The alignment:
Went with -2.5F and -2.0R. Zero toe x4. I was in the car when they set it all up, too. We will see how this feels. There is much to become familiar with.

Track wheels/tires:
R1Rs @ 275/40 on RPF1, 17x10

Track Brakes: Stock STi with SS lines, Motul 600 and Hawk DTC-70 pads x4 corners. I might run a higher temp fluid in the future.

I have done four prior track days in this car, three in an EvoX (with the sst transmission), three in a 08STi, and four in an 04' WRX wagon (16G). In the process of chasing other cars around the track, including a 10' Evo (and compared to that car, too), the STi just does not stay flat. Even heavy-ass RS5s stay so much more neutral in the corners. I am really looking forward to seeing what this set-up will help me achieve.

My STi is making about 375whp with a TMIC set-up, so I have lots more power to capitalize on once I can put that power to the ground, especially on entrance and exit speeds.

Daily Driving Feedback: Not harsh, but much rougher. I think much of that is the lack of any rubber on the front end; the OE top-hats I think suck up tons of...well, everything. For me it is very livable. Now with the alignment done the car feel great. Already I can feel greatly reduced body roll just taking normal corners at normal speeds. So, aside from some sharpness with certain shaped deformations in the road and more road noise, nothing to bitch about.

Those are based on the 4100's. As far as I know nobody has their 4150's with the digressive piston and shim stack in the states yet.

We were able to get SOME digression with the valving we came up with.

Maybe i am misunderstanding something here but to get any significant meaningful digression wouldnt you need to start with a piston that was designed as a digressive piston from the ground up? *Im sure when ast slightly modifies shim stacks (custom valves) shocks for shops like yours you see minor changes in a dyno plot. No shock is perfectly straight and linear but to call a 4100 piston based shock with a slightly modified shin stack somewhat digressive seems a little misleading.

The original review thread with dyno plots has broken picture links, but I recall the SST curve being fairly digressive. As are most shocks I've seen. A linear shock just seems weird to me anyway.

Got the alignment done. Next week the car gets a surge tank so I don't get fuel starvation again. Very scary for the engine.

As for digression, at what point would someone like me notice such differences?

I don't recall the TiC coilovers being that digressive. They had extra low speed damping (ramped up towards zero), but the profile I thought was relatively linear on up, maybe a slight digression but not much, at least not that I recall. I kind of viewed them as an improved version of the D-Specs in a rough sense, with improved low speed damping and an ability to run a good bit higher spring rates.

All the time. A properly valved truly digressive shock will handle better at the limit and be more comfortable at the same time. Best of both worlds. Imo saying a linear coilover is somewhat digressive is nonsense. No linear coilover is going to have a perfectly straight plot but 4100 based shocks are most definitely linear
