Default Next-Gen shooter battle: Gears of War vs. Resistance: Fall of Man (vs. Red Steel)

Ok, let's see which you think is more impressive. Gears is Microsoft's hot ticket this fall shipping 3 days ahead of the PS3 here in the US.

Campaign, online and offline co-op through Live, and some sweet graphics.

Check out this trailer:

Shorter, more cinematic trailer here:

Second up is Resistance: Fall of Man. This is Sony's premier FPS for the PS3 launch.

http://image.com.com/gamespot/images..._screen004.jpg

It's kind of an alternate-history alien technology meets WWII style gameplay. It too features split-screen co-op and online multiplayer (not sure about online co-op).

Gameplay footage:

Finally, for the Wii, it's Red Steel. Sadly, no co-op, and not even any online multiplayer

Sorry, no poll option. Didn't think of this until after...

What do you think? Which looks more exciting/impressive?

Bottom one looks cartoony IMO. Gears of War looks much better. But I will be getting the Wii so will probably not play either of them...

Trick question... FPS games don't belong on consoles.

hehe, that was the exact reverse of what I originally thought. Gears of War looks like a copy of Unreal Tournament 2004, so more cartoonish than the Resistance game.

Why don't they allow keyboard/mouse support for FPS games on next-gen consoles? The controls are so much easier/precise with a mouse. The XBOX 360 does have USB ports.

One of the things that truly holds me back from embracing console gaming is the lack of keyboard/mouse support. I love FPS games and trying to control them via a stick is annoying. Plus, if you like RTS games keyboard/mouse is also infinitely superior. Adding that functionality just allows them to sell more "official" accessories = more money. There has to be an actual reason.

you know i heard a rumor that you could plug a USB mouse into a PS2 and it would work. never tested it though..

It worked with a few games, the first Unreal Tournament being one of them. The PS3 has the same features but they chose not to use it in Resistance.

:edit: You will be able to use a keyboard in any text-entry field with the PS3, which is cool...but I can't see keeping a keyboard lying around for that.

Gears looks better, Red Steel will probably have the most interesting play due to the unique interface... and I'll stick to FPS on the PC although I want to see if the Wii controller really works for them.

Why don't you just lick Bill Gates' taint and get it over with already?

Ok, here's my constructive response:

Red Steel, despite having the worst visuals of the three, will be the most entertaining title due to the nature of it's control scheme ala Wiimote. There, I said it. Unfortunately, you didn't leave an option for Red Steel.

GOW has much more hype surrounding it thanks to the marketting muscle of microsoft behind it... you can already see the first 12 minutes of gameplay and it looks great.

However, i am very intigued by "real steel" for the Wii. If it gets good reviews, it may turn out to be a "killer app" for me and i'll be picking it up.

God I love being a recent college grad with a job.

affirmative.

The control scheme looks "unqiue" but i'm guessing it will still take some time to get used to. Looking at the preview videos, it looks like it may be a bit more immersive (or gimmicky) than a keyboard + mouse but we'll see.

really? I have an aftermarket adapter I use when I play SOCOM III (when I did anywho) taht allows me to use a mouse and keyboard and is programmable. But the mouse speed is not high enough.
