Default Oil gallery plug or sandwich adapter?

Who wants to help?!!

I just picked up a sandwich adapter from Mach V, but I'm having second thoughts about using it for my oil pressure sender. I removed the Prosport oil temp sender from the oil gallery plug next to the PCV valve because the Defi sender has such an awkward shape.

So... which should I use? The oil gallery plug or the sandwich adapter?

In either case, who wants to help me get this sender installed? Free beer!

Falls Church, VA.

I had the sandwhich adapter on my last wrx, worked great. Used for prosport pressure and temp sensor. Never used the oil gallery sensor, but the sandwhich was very easy to install, just make sure you teflon the sensor threads, and do your oil change at the same time Let me know if you have any questions if you decide to put it in!

You're readings won't be as accurate using a sandwich adapter. The place you already had your probe mounted for oil temp was ideal. I had a Defi temperature sensor in my oil gallery on my old WRX with no issues.

I'm using the sandwich adapter for my prosport guages and I have no issues, but IDK what the defi sender that you're calling akward looks like... SO I would do what seems best (fitment wise and possibly easier )

I can help you down in richmond if you don't have it done yet by next week. My car is down until my coilovers get in and there seems to be a problem with customs so WHO KNOWS how long it's gonna take. I was supposed to have them last wednesday.....

So that's 2 for oil gallery and 2 for sandwich adapter.

I'm personally getting very good at getting the intercooler off. Working on getting the intercooler on quicker lol

I had sti robot halp with mine. He knows gauges. I asked the same question. He said he had tried both, and the most idiotproof is the gallery plug.

You will need to get the relocator. I think machv sells it too.

Screw! I just forced the bitch into the gallery plug. That was an awkward 30 minutes with needle nose pliers and a light attached to my forehead

I'll be going back to Mach V tomorrow to return the sandwich adapter.

Here's to hoping it doesn't leak

I have the sandwich adaptor. Just make sure if you ever do it, to wrap with the silicone tape so no leaks.

Good job

A sandwich adapter is basically useless on our motors so you will be happy with your sender in this location.

use the galley and get a sender relocation kit to mount the unit up near the stock alarm to avoid the unit being vibrated out of place

Will that happen? I've had the oil temp sensor in the same location for about 2 years and it didn't leak.

I don't think it's for the leaks but more for the unit itself getting messed up by the vibrations. Cnat speak from experience since I have yet to install I...

Has anyone ever tested this? I'd be interested in seeing two gauges hooked up simultaneously (one reading the galley plug and the other reading a sandwich plate) to one motor to see if there's any real difference.

Yes, it has been proven before...just do a search on Scoobymods. Peaty was getting readings about 20-30 degrees hotter by using the galley plug location. Basically, the oil passes through the stock oil cooler before it reaches the sandwich adapter, so the temp reading comes out a lot less than if you had a sensor in the galley spot. A sandwich adapter also makes the oil filter sit down lower, which some people might not care about, but I wouldn't be comfortable with it.

I'm thinking about installing a "Make a sandwich" adapter on my wife, does anyone know how well these perform?

How about pressure readings?

I don't know about pressure readings, I would assume it would at least be similar in difference between the two locations, possibly not as much of a difference as temp but still different. To me, it makes the most sense to tap a sensor into the location of the stock oil pressure sensor, which is in the galley plug underneath the alternator.
