Default So what mods have you done to your baja?

Big or small, just wondering what everyone has done to their baja. I decided to keep mine and will be continuing to mod it.

so far:

Looks - underdash board lights in blue (underbody lights are illegel) In the future I might do something to the body of the car

Sound - Pioneer Premier DEH-P850MP Head unit with a Power Acoustic 980 watt amp and a power acoustic 12 inch FUBR series sub (TONS OF BOOOOOM). I was going to order an XM reciever and antenna yesterday but its out with the old and waiting for the new updated recievers which will take a month. In the mean time I am going to order 4 kicker 6 1/2 door speakers (forget the model number right now.......cable modem is buggered up today).

In august I am going to get some nice 17 inch rims and my XM reciever (It will be my birthday present) Oh and I forgot on my birthday I get my DRIVERS LICENCE

So far I have done a IC and radiator mesh protector that was DIY. I also have installed a grounding kit. I have a PDA mount and GPS reciever that I have installed to use my GPS Navigation system on my Dell PDA.

I just ordered my ARE canopy for my baja and just waiting for it to come in. I also am going to upgrade the tunes as well. If I remember right the same HU as you 2003Baja. BTW, how do you like it? I am also getting the XM reciever at the same time. Just need to make time to get to the shop and schedule a time for the install.

In the not to distant future I plan to get a rear sway bar and a better skid plate. After that I don't know. We will see after I start RallyCrossing. But I don't think that I really want to do anything else.

IMHO the best mod you can do to your Baja IS the XM. I have had XM for almost 2 years, and I can't live without it. If you travel (or even if you don't), it's a must.
I have lost the signal 4 times in almost 2 years, and have driven halfway across the US. I am so afraid of voiding the warranty, I might just leave this car alone. That would be a first in 10 cars. LOL

XM and bed bike carrier is all I've done. The music I want and a way to carry bikes and a kayak. What more is needed? Well, I'd like a larger tire for more ground clearance. I could care less about mega-watt sound systems and lighting, etc. Just let it get me and my toys to the trail or river.

Snug Lid Bed cover, K&N High Flow filter, DVD player with 7" LCD in dash with Switch for LCD above cup holders in coin slot, Blue lights under dash and back seat. Not really a mod but I moved the front cross bar next to the back on to reduce the noise but still have access to it if I pick something up on the way home.
I am working on a 4 channel amp install between the two back seats (where the tray & cup holder is right now).
I would like to add a bull bar if I can find one. If I win the lottery I would get a lift kit, bigger wheels and a super charger installed.

Except for dealer installed hitch, bike rack, and bed extender, the only other addition was a patch of velcro under the dash to hold my phone...

I'm planning a switch to XM, but I think I will actually put the antenna on the rear of the hood, between the wiper jets.

Eventually, an exhaust and intake kit, possibly thicker sway bars and a shock tower brace.

Do my Spitfire Trucks stickers count?

WOW, lots of XM lovers out there, just ordered the reciever and antenna today. Never knew there were so many people modding there bajas. (my friends called me crazy till they saw my head unit and heard the sub) Now I noticed I need to dynamat some parts of the baja. Specifically the doors, and the rear hatch (if you knock on it from the outside you'll notice it can use some dynamat if your running a sub or 2 inside) I will take pics of my XM install.

At the end of the week I should be getting the XM equipment. My birthday is auguest 21st so the dynamat, new speakers and amps will have to wait. But it will be worth the wait in my opinion since it will be free high quality stuff (XM radio stuff was from honeroll I made in school)

I got to use my new HU and XM a bit today and all I have got to say is WOW. The HU has improved the Baja's sound by 100 fold. It sounds so good now. All i need now is the 100w subwoofer for the baja that goes under the pass. seat.

Is the stock 6 cd changer that bad of a stereo?
Why did you switch out the 6 for the single deck......?

Did you switch out the speakers too?

Any pictures of you install?

I had it installed by my local shop. They did a top notch job. The sterio is the best stock sterio that I have ever heard. But I wanted a little more clarity and a couple of other features. I got a HU that has MP3, WMA and XM Ready. And I got the XM reciever as well. I didn't switch out the speakers becuase I wanted to see how good they were with a higher quality HU installed. And I found that the Premium speakers in the Baja sound great with my Pioneer HU. The clarity is astounding for stock speakers. I will be taking pictures of the finished product when I get the ARE canopy installed and posting them. That should be in a few weeks.

I like the new XM products. I have the pioneer unit, and it's 2 years old. That's the same amount of time I have had XM. The stock speakers do sound pretty good on some of the stations. On other stations they don't do the job. I have a "heavier" taste (ch 41, 42, 48) and those are the ones the speakers are okay on. On 73, they do quite well. But nothing beats 83 (chrome/disco) with the windows down, at rush hour. LOL People really look at the Baja then, but mainly to see the nut driving it, listening to disco.

I'm just finishing up with a custom made center console cover. The original was fine, but the new one is a little higher, and has a garage door opener molded into the front lip, just to the left of the latch you use to open it. Looks clean so far, but I haven't finished stretching the material over it yet.

Wink

Well, I said almost finished...

I've still got to skin it. Right now, it looks like a mess of MDF and expanding foam. But I'll post something once it's done.

i have added a new head unit looks exactly the same as 2003baja's. I also put in 12, 90 watt strobes. I am legally allowed too have them in my state since i am a firefighter. I also have many more upgrades in plan. basicly too make it a lot faster (hopefully in the 12 sec range) and a little louder stereo. Pics of the strobes are coming soon, just gotta get time too take them

No suspension or engine mods?

I have an XM radio and waiting for the car kit and FM modulator to install it. I have the boom box and want to be able to take the radio from my car to my office.
