v1 wrx swap problems
did anyone have any problems occur after doing this swap?
i have a 1998 2.5rs coupe and i have put the v1 wrx swap out of a clip i purchased from RIMSANDTHINGS.COM and i have the most unusual wiring problem. (something is telling my ECU not to send out a signal to injector #3) gets a power signal but no Ground signal...?!?!?!? did any1 else have any problems....? thanks, Andrew

nope.....tried and around 6 oclock today we have a subaru swap mech comming to try and figure it out.
the ecu isnt sending out a pulsating ground to the injector, but if we put it in another car with same 95 wrx swap the ecu works fine...signal and all ?!?!?! but just not in mine it is like something is telling the ecu not to send it out, but only in my car.. i think we may have left off a ground sumwhere in the harness or something. |

hmm whered you get a hold of a subaru swap tech?
i dont know much, only things id know to check are all the ignition control things, individual injector wiring, can you check resistance on its ground to see if its fully grounding? |

we have checked the all individual injector wiring and checked the resistance on each ground and injector 3 isnt grounding at all, we have ran a ground off of it to eliminate the possibilities of it being a nic or cut in the wire sumwhere but still that didnt do it.
the guy coming has done a couple subaru swaps and he seems to know alot about the wiring and mechanical stuff and he himeself drives a 1995 l brighton with a 95 wrx swap. he isnt really a certified tech but i think he knows what he is doin......well at least more than me |

I'm pretty sure the ecu grounds the injector I could be wrong. but from what I remember the ecu grounds the injector and will always have power to the injector...so there possibly a problem in the circuit not the ecu. are you checking with a node light? or a mulitmeter you can check restistance between the ecu connector and the stright injector if you do get resisitance it could be high if not it could be the injector

maybe the injector itself is ff'ed? and the ground inside it is damaged?

dur, if your not getting a drop to ground & you've verified your splicing is all correct your injector driver in the ecu is dead
aka time for new ecu |

Have you tried to swap injectors around to another cylinder and see if it works there (move #3 to #2 and vice-versa).

o.k
the ECU works in another car perfect! another car with the 95 wrx swap....so therefor the ecu is fine. we have tried swapping injector and if we put the bad injector on a cylinder it doesnt fire(i am talking about swapping plugs around) but if we put a good plug on the spot where the bad injector was it will fire the cylinder. is there any kind of sensor in the car that will keep an injector from firing...? also if anyone has any suggestions on what to do, i would appreciate it. thanks, Andrew also i havent had the car moving in 8ish months........all but this one injector are fine |

try running direct 12V to the bad injector...ground out one side and hook the other to your battery. see if it clicks, do that a few time. On random occasions the injector can freeze and the extra power will cause it to unfreeze. you'll be able to hear and feel it click open and closed.
Another thing, try running a noid light on the injector harness, see if it flashes, if not run an ohm meter from the injector harness to the injector pin on your ecu, if you show nothing you've got a bad wire in there. |

What happens when you try the 95 ECU on your car?
Is it intermittent or constant? In other words if you unplug the offending injector while it's running, does it run worse or the same? How do did you verify that the injector is not getting the ground pulse? -Rob |

if you have the wiring diagrams.. You can trace the injector wires from the ecu to main engine harness connector. A simple continuity test will tell you if that section is ok. Then do the same from that spot on the engine harness connector side to the injector your having the problem with. If you have continuity to it, then the wire is good.
This is how i found my problem when i first got done with my swap. Turns out during the wiring, i mixed 2 wires that controlled the #3 and #4 injectors. Swapped those 2 wires back to where they should have been, And bingo. Just check from ecu to engine side of the bulkhead harness (where the engine harness plugs in) and from the engine harness to the injector. That'll lead you somewhere. Because this sounds like a wiring problem.. Not a component.. you proved that when you were swapping the injector connectors. |

Does that car have a coilpack or individual coils on plugs?
Try swapping coils with your buddy, or move the coilpacks around. |

we purchased new coil on plugs..(the individual ones right.) from supermoose when we got the swap in, and we thought that it was the problem, but it isnt...lol

Timing belt is on correctly?
Did the engine have any broken timing covers on it when you bought it? |

Off by three teeth when you got the engine? If so you probably have some bent valves. |

Curious.. I can't think of anything these guys haven't thought of... if you have swapped the injector to another cylinder and it fires, then it's the wiring... Try grabbing an injector out of that other car that has a swap and put it in your car and see if that fixes it?

Does the ground for the injectors on that engine all come from 1 ground? Thats the way the newer wrx's are, only the power is seperate.

He already mentioned that he ran a direct ground to the injector and it still did not fire. |
