I'm glad to hear you're enjoying yourself in paradise. Yes, they're probably stealing a lot of German car customers and even adding a lot of non-car people because it's more of an appliance than the "automobile" we've all become familiar with.

The thing with the Y is that it targets a real sweet spot in the market. They will sell every one they can produce. The primary limiting factor will continue to be their ability to supply their factories with batteries for at least a few more years. What happens after that depends on how well the market responded to the battery demand and what kinds of new technologies arise from this shift towards the EV.

I will say the renders don't look too bad. A Mustang inspired SUV sounds like it could be popular with the typical Ford buyer. Adding the Mustang's sequential tail lights would be good touch.

It seems the official Ford announcement today is that it will in fact be called the Ford Mustang Mach-E.

It will carry the Mustang name despite not being a Mustang, so I'm sure there will be no controversy over that whatsoever...

Ford has definitely put the Model Y and Tesla in their crosshairs.

Default Bill Ford States ďItís Going to go like HellĒ

Quote:
Ford Mustang Mach-E: first images of all-new electric SUV leak out
Ford also announced today that it will begin taking deposits for the Mustang Mach-E in the US and Europe immediately after it's revealed, with the first wave of buyers being offered the option of a highly specced First Edition model. However, full pricing hasn't yet been announced, while Chinese buyers won't be able to put down a deposit until a later date.

Deliveries of the Mustang Mach-E are expected to commence in 2020, suggesting the car in Los Angeles will be a production model rather than a concept. Ford is understood to have had huge internal debates over using the Mustang name in production. The new model was given the 'Mach 1' tag during early development because of strong public opinion against the use of the branding historically reserved for Mustangs, but Ford has now decided to combine both.

The new car is the first Ford designed as an electric car from the ground up, with a bespoke new platform enabling both rear and four-wheel drive. It will crown the brandís wide-reaching electrification plan under which European customers will be offered a hybrid, plug-in hybrid or fully electric version of every new model launched.

The only technical detail Ford has officially revealed is the carís range: it will be capable of 370 miles of WLTP-certified range on a single charge, beating the Tesla Model X (351 miles) and Jaguar I-Pace (292 miles). A less expensive version with less battery capacity and range is also expected.

Ford claims charging will be ďeffortlessĒ and it is ďredesigning the ownership experience to ensure it addresses customer pain points that currently hold back broad [electric car] adoptionĒ. The carís performance remains undisclosed, although chairman Bill Ford has previously claimed it ďis going to go like hellĒ.
At a Bank of America summit last month, a Ford presentation showed that it would offer a higher-performance variant of the electric crossover, targeting the more accelerative versions of Teslaís EVs.

I hope this car sells well. It will increase the momentum for building charging infrastructure. From the perspective of a potential buyer though, road tripping possibilities will be inconvenient at best compared to a Tesla, and very inconvenient compared to a gasoline car.

47 miles in 10 minutes on a 150 kW charger. That doesn't sound like it's very efficient in terms of MPGe or watt/hours per mile. And how many 150 kW CCS chargers are out there right now? Here in the Detroit metro area, Ford's own back yard, electrify america just recently opened two locations with 150 kW CCS chargers, but most CCS charging is only 50kw. There are only a few Tesla Superchargers but still, the overall network is better.

Just like the Porsche Taycan, compared to Tesla it will compete on acceleration and performance (in some trims at least), but will be far behind on charging and efficiency, while slightly behind on range.

With the $7500 tax credit available it will be comparable price or a bit cheaper but that depends on how Ford does the option packages.

The car / CUv looks pretty good and pricing seems to be legit. I really hope it’s a successful launch and the product isn’t flawed. Still doesn’t meet what I need but we’re getting close.

Front end looks good, no mustang to be found. Rear end looks weird. Should have ditched the mustang moniker and put on different tail lights.

Me too.

They should have brought the Mercury name back for their line of electric vehicles. There's nothing "Mustang" about this though.

If they just called it the Mach E and dropped the mustang, that would have still been OK.

How is this baffling? They are rolling the dice that attaching a familiar name to it increases sales.

agree. The rear just looks bad.
Also that interior with the large ipad glued in. Why?

I think I would rather a Tesla than this.

Another random musing... is this why they stopped producing "cars"? I hope not.

ď Ford doesn't currently offer any electric vehicles, but it announced Thursday that, once it does, it will offer the largest North American network of electric vehicle chargers of any automaker ó including Tesla.Ē

Mach E or Machy is derogatory name for Jewish people. Meaning a real cheap loud obnoxious NYer
The Hamster Kia uses is also NY slang for blacks.
