Default Flange Question

So im going with the CX Racing FMIC kit, but i want to retain my stock BPV. Where can i find a flange that can be welded onto piping that will work with the BPV? Do i just worse comes to worse "ghetto engineer" a BPV-> BOV converter, but just weld on the "BOV" side and use the BPV part?

Ej20Gs don't have a flange. The bypass valve sits in a hose that runs between the turbo outlet pipe and the turbo inlet pipe.

That is a similar situation to the dsm 2g and evo bpv. There are plenty of aftermarket bovs that fit the same way. Just need to know the size of the hose that goes to it. Order a spare flange from one of the bov companies.... they sell them separately in steel or aluminum..... check turboxs for example.
There are many more if you look into it and all vary slightly in size

I assumed that in my post... as I explained... the "stock" valve is attached exactly the way some aftermarket valves are... ie turboxs and others... hence you can just order one the spare flanges they sell and weld it to your pipe... then just attach your rubber hose with "your" valve on it. Easy as pie...

Get an Ej205 valve. It's a lot easier to make work.

Most people say they are reliable up to about 20psi.

if i go upwards of 20 psi, which would you suggest for being recirced?

and if my turbo is pnped, does that change

im looking at prospectively running in the 20-22 psi range on a pnped 16g

I've had the greddy type-s and it wouldn't hold more than 18psi. The two that I've seen that don't leak and aren't hard to get the adjustment right on are the hks ssqv and the tial bov.

I don't really know how much your stock bpv will hold. They all seem to be slightly different. The bpv from my v4 sti held 21psi but eventually broke the nipple off.

But I consider it as good insurance. You plan of seeing 20-22psi, that's a lot of boost. I'd rather have a bov that can easily function under that pressure than something that's at it's limits. Besides, it would suck to find out your bpv is leaking while you're getting tuned.

But, talk to your tuner and ask if it matters if your bov is vta or recirced.

Why do you say it needs to be recirc'd... I run a turboxs RFL non recirc and the performance is great plus the sound is absolutely ridiculous between shifts.

I dont know who would have said such a thing. I personally have it(turboxs rfl) on my car, ej20g, tdo5 16g. I love it. It has a very distinct sound on the subaru motors. I have heard it on other subys and same sound.... very distinct and exotic... performs perfect and my car runs like a champ. Good luck whichever you decide.

You should be around 10 to 20 dollars at any good welding shop.... maybe free if you get lucky... just a very small job, most shops will likely do it for free. The flanges can be ordered in aluminum or steel so you have your choice depending on ic pipe material.

Well, since you're thinking of getting the ebay fmic you should be aware that some shops won't weld on those pipes because it's so thin. But you don't need to weld a flange on for your set-up. Just get the adapter for a v4 or older and it'll work with that fmic. All you have to do is plug the recurc to your induction hose.

If you can't find the right adapter then the Evo 8+ adaptors look very close to the right size. If it's not then just use a brass step down adapter from a plumbing store.

so pretty much just go

pipe---->hose-->v4 or earler adapter->bov--->recirc kit---->hose---->induction hose.

If i go with HKS, i see they make a kit, does it require to be welded with a flange, or does it float free like the oem.

is the turboXS the flange adapter? and of the turboXS bov's which of them can be recirced.

edit nm: saw they have to be recirced.

Ya, that's pretty much how it goes. I've got the HKS on my car and the TXS rfl on my wife's car. I really like the HKS because it reacts really fast, doesn't need to be adjusted, and doesn't leak. (The most I've run is 26psi)

The TXS I consider one of the worst bov's out there. I slapped it on my car for a couple days and it wouldn't work properly. If you had the spring pressure high enough that it would hold boost then it wouldn't open between shifts when it saw low amounts of pressure. So wot it wouldn't work just fine, but putting around it didn't. So that hunk of junk stays on my wife's car. Her car is pretty much stock so it works kinda ok on her car. Btw, there's a few threads on here that talk specifically about the flaws of the TXS bov's if you search.

or do i use the TXS flange with the hks.

essentially so far im buying the hks and the recirc kit, what else do i have to get, and what do i do flangewise.

You'll need an adapter specific for the hks bov. You can use either a v4 or older adapter, a Evo 8+ adapter, or a S13 adapter. You won't need to weld a flange because the adapter for the bov is relatively the same size as the tube on the chargepipe. You won't be able to use the TXS adapter because it uses a completely different mounting design.

It might be easier to just buy a hks bov with the evo8 adapter because it'll come pre-mounted to the adapter. If you buy them separate then you'll need a 90degree needlenose plier to attach it.

Here's one I found for an S13 that should work.
s13 bov
If you buy them separately I think the Perrin universal adapter might work. But I'd call them first and see.
Here's what the Perrin adapter looks like.
