Default Using an LCD to monitor parameters

Hello all- I am going to be putting an alpine cva-1005 in my factory clock location using the
din pod available in the aftermarket. I'm wondering if there is an engine management
system available with a standard rca video out that can be connected to the screen's
video in. I acquired the screen for a navigation system in my last car, but I'd like to
put it to use primarily as an engine monitoring device in my '03 WRX wagon. I'd like to do
the UTEC system, as that seems to be the best 'bang for the buck' but I don't know enough about
what's available to know if there is an interface available. Anyone know what I'm talking
about, or where I can get something like this?

Thanks for your help,

P03W

You could run one of the 3rd party graphical interfaces for the UTEC on a laptop with video out and feed that to your Alpine. That's really the only option with UTEC as it just talks in serial.

Or you could run the DeltaDash software on the display being driven (as above) from a laptop.

wow- i did find some info on the HKS camp system, and it sounds like a great replacement for the subaru gauge pod. I can put my alpine lcd in the din pocket up top, get an hks box for ~$200, a junction box or something (I think it's pricey too) and then sensors for each gauge (turbo, temp, etc.) anyone used this system and have feedback on it?
Thanks

Definitely like to hear about this one. I've been eyeing it, but it seems a bit expensive, and I can't find anyone who has one.

Help?

I was looking into a HKS camp setup too.. there is one for sale on this board HKS camp FS

Its not mine though, but its a deal. Also try gruppe-s.com, you'll need to ask because its not on their site, when I was looking at it they gave me some good prices.

The only thing that turned me away from the camp unit was the price.. a full setup (sensors and all) would end up being over $1000. Defi link display, controller, and all the sensors seemed better for now and less than 700.

I've also decided in the long term to create my own setup using the output of a UTEC, a 240x64 graphic LCD, and a microcontroller. I've gotten pretty far (able to do 4 simulated analog guages and a bar graph display similar to the skyline except just in B&W) I just don't have a UTEC or atleast a csv log from one to simulate the UTEC itself. Once I stop spending all my extra cash on little tech goodies I'll get my own UTEC so I'd actually be able to use it. Depending on how the next 3 months go I'll be making the details for it available. Maybe even a crappy video text overlay or something so I can keep myself busy.

I'll write the LCD screen software if one of you hardware guys develops a good interface to some gauges

Oh yeah, and buys me a prototype screen + programming software to work with.

I used an RS-232 graphic LCD 7 in. display with a vt100 controller. The idea is to get the entire dash and log interface to display. Plus its an ir touch screen, kinda’ swag…
I have to admit to not having it working quite right, doh!
