Post Anyone's car stalling and then dies after hard corner

Hi guys & gals,

Just wondering, This weekend while trying out my new Yoko's in the local canyons, my car salled and died comming out of a hard left hand turn. Now before you all go: You need at least 3/4 tank of fuel..... I KNOW THAT.... My tank was full, and this is not the same type of stall. The car acted like power to the fuel pump was cut. Tach was working, no lights was on or flashing exhaust temp was 0, so I figure no fuel for SOME reason.

Just thought if someone else had this happen to them before, it sure would save me from pulling my car COMPLETELY apart.

Andre

Check fuel pump power relays for a weak connection and also the fuel pump itself for a rattling. Any hints of leaking fuel or anything like that? Possible gas cutoff short?

Oh, and you need 3/4 tank of gas, thought I'd throw that out there for you.

Thanks Phil,

Looked at all those.... no prob found. But I will not be able to know for sure till I go "play" again.

Apparently there is some kind of "rollover" sensor that cuts fuel in case of roll over, that may have come loose or defective also. But I wil not be able to check that till next week.

I was readin in the SCC Project car about Fuel Sloshing. This is when the fuel in the tank moves to one side during a hard corner, and momentarily starves the fuel pump. Hence the stall. If you keep it above 1/2 tank, it shouldn't happen. Another alternative is setting up a secondary Fuel Cell, wired inline with the existing one.

I'll try to find the article/issue/page for you.

I'm about to send over a anti-surge tank setup with secondary pump for someone to try.

We'll let you know how it goes

If it was on a hard LEFT turn, then it wasn't fuel starvation due to fuel slosh -- the pickup is located on the right side of the tank.

hmmmmmm.. maybe there is a loose connection with the fuel pump, or maybe you need a new fuel filter.. hope you fix it soon

Question

Are you sure about that roll-over sensor? SCRAPPYDO rolled his car several times (over a cliff) and landed on his roof with the car running!

I am NOT sure about the rollover sensor, but I will check it out next week. Apparently it is located above the charcoal canister at the back of the car.

This is definately NOT a fuel slosh problem, although I would be interested in one of those pick up "thingies" of yours Jay. being able to run less than 1/2 a tank sure will save a LOT of weight at the autox.... If I will EVER see another one.... So Damn busy lately.

Rolover sensors are far from sure-things. sometimes they work sometimes they don't. in fact sometimes they jsut fire a cut off the fuel if you get too low... that's the best idea i've heard yet... a hyperactive rollover sensor
