![]() How did you connect the cable to the ashtray aux? Did you have to cut the connector off the harness on the ashtray auxiliary box and solder the cable you bought? -or was it plug and play??

![]() Misterkt,
It is almost plug and play on the ashtray end.. the cable has individual insulated female pins that you just match the colors up to the 5 pins on the ashtray connector. Cheers, Tim |

Subaru's aux box makes a point of grounding the "aux enable" input to chassis ground and not to the aux audio ground, so I think it would be a good idea to do the same. Yes, using the audio ground works, but that may introduce unwanted noise. Quote:

![]() SVXdc,
I'm not using the audio ground (it's electronically ground loop isolated, so it won't provide enough ground anyway ![]() ![]() Cheers, Tim |

![]() I purchased the auxiliary cable from Tim-M and this is what I got (Cable and Plug Diagram):
![]() This cable works great and the installation was simple. Here is a pic of the auxiliary box harness and the cable I purchased: ![]() I modified the back of the panel that houses the auxiliary box so that the cable coming from the box could pass through easier, I did this by drilling a hole and cutting out a slot: ![]() |

![]() This kit looks great..
Tim you're kit is getting some press (by me) over at the Forester forum: http://www.subaruforester.org/vbulle...d=1#post281036 I want to make sure I'm telling those guys correctly that they can get your kit to fit an existing plug at the ashtray (like above) or completely from head-unit out to the stereo-mini-jack they could mount anywhere.. correct? ... Sorry I reread the PM you sent me about the two styles. Answered my question. |

![]() Just a quick update..
I've found out that the Forester stereo AUX connector is not the same as the Impreza ![]() The Impreza AUX connector supplies ground from pin 4 to pin 6 in order to activate the AUX button (this is the wiring configuration Subaru uses for the ash tray AUX adaptor). On the Forester radio, pin 6 still needs to be grounded, but pin 4 does not supply it, so Forester stereo's will need an external ground (as originally posted by SVXdc). Pin 7 is the ground for the steering wheel remote audio control switch, but I'm not sure if it is a safe ground to use for the Forester, so I'll be using an external ground for all of my future AUX cables. The ground can be attached to the screw that is right beside the AUX plug on the back of the radio. Many thanks to JP in Ottawa for helping me sort this out ![]() Cheers, Tim |

![]() Subaru says its a 120 watt deck (30x4) that is peak output. Realistic RMS is probably half that, so 15 per channel at best.

![]() I had heard of both a 120W and 240W in-dash changer, so I guess the 240W is in some other Subaru model? Would I be able to install the 240W version in my 07 STi Limited without major mods? I also have the under-seat subwoofer.

Hadn't been in here for a while.. to answer your question.. yep.. 07 FXT oem for sale I guess.. just haven't been too agressive about it as I don't have the budget allocated to pour into the audio system I want to yet.. This is the one that also powers the forester oem 6x9" sub in back. Works great, sounds great.. should on paper work fine with Tim's cable kit. |

![]() Tim
I have a 2005 LGT that I put the 2007 Spec B/Legacy GT radio in. Do you know if the the "legacy" Aux in is the same as the impreza. I see you posted that the Forrester is a bit different. Is there anyway for you to check the legacy aux in wiring? Thanks in advance |

I think the legacy wagons and sedans aux in are in the console storage bin right by power plug. I wonder if this would work for the impreza somehow. |

![]() I've got an 04 WRX with the upgraded sound system and underseat subwoofer. I just picked up an 07 STI HU with the aux connector. Anyone know the part# for the t harness that will let me connect my subwoofer back up as well as the aux adapter?

Or does your T-harness have the extra 8-pin plug (at the HU end)? There's an easy mod to bypass that plug so your harness uses only the 14-pin connectors — Take a look at this thread: Stock head unit information -- pin-outs, subwoofer, aux inputs, and morein the section on subwoofers, see the link to the thread "stock sub w/ aftermarket hu." |

![]() Sweet! Thanks! As far as the original sub woofer t-harness, whatever SOA put in there should still be in thee as I have done no mods to the original radion since I bought the car (other than adding an amplified 10" Bazooka tube)

![]() I took my 07 radio out, and put in an AVIC-D3, and since I dont need the aux port anymore, I want to put an ashtray in it and perhaps have more storage space. Anyone have clear instructions on how to get the actual aux port out of the bezel.

Is all the plug from 00-07 the same? Just checking. |
