Default Southern Subaru in Waldorf, MD Awful

Terrible experience with these guys. I had a price with a salemanager that we both agreed to. Took the car out for a test drive, came back in and waited another hour. General manager brings me into the office, and tells me that he can't sell me the car at that price. Says that the sales manager was misinformed!

I walked out, after spending about 5 hours over two trips total to them. I went to another dealership on the beltway, and bought a new STi for less money in about an hour of my time end to end.

AVOID these guys!

I got a price quote from them for a 2005 STi. Stock car they wanted over MSRP, then I mentioned the option packages I wanted (Performance Group 2b, Popular Equipment group 2B). The internet sales manager first broke out each single option and then quoted a price OVER MSRP for each part. When I sent an email back questioning the pricing he said "remember, these are prics for the options INSTALLED, the MSRP prices you are referring to don't include installation."

All in all, for a close to fully loaded STi, he wanted nearly $35,000.00. Not even worth going in to haggle.

Although I have never personally bought a car from Southern, I do feel I need to present some positive experiences. My parents have bought 5 Oldsmobiles and a Subaru Forester from Southern over the past 13-14 years. My dad is the type of person who does his research, knows invoice vs. MSRP, and will walk out if he thinks he's getting an unfair or unreasonable deal. So, they must be doing something right in that respect. They have also been cool the several times I visited, offering me test drives even though they knew I was not buying that day. Now, we were not looking at an STi and have no experience there, but perhaps they treat that more like a luxury car and are less willing to bend with regards to price.

PS--I escaped Chuck County too!!

Back in the fall, my friend who's a VW mechanic at the dealership said they wouldn't be selling the STi's below MSRP, so the high price doesn't surprise me.

I've met the Internet sales guy, Thomas, a few times for test drives of the WRX before I purchased one (from a NJ dealership while I was still living there) and the Legacy GT while my WRX was getting routine service. He's a nice guy and seems as honest as he's allowed to be for his job.

The service department is good. Anytime I had a weird problem, one of the service managers would come out to take a look at it before assigning the job to a mechanic. I got to hang out in the service bays and meet some of the mechanics. All of the ones I've met knew what they were doing. I've had my car serviced regularly from the first routine service up to the 15k mile service and never had a problem with the dealership.

Thomas was great, but the management there didn't allow them to keep the deal that another manager agreed to. I had it in writing too, it's amazing.

I'll only buy at Mile One from now on. This is now the 2nd car that I've purchased from them. I got my STi at invoice, which was over 1k less than Southern tried to rape me for.

Angry

I absolutely hate Southern Subaru. I had an absolutely horrible experience with them a year and a half ago attempting to get valid warranty work done on my car. After a MONTH of fighting with them and having no vehicle the issue was finally resolved and they did the work they should have done in the first place. They were not friendly or pleasant to deal with and I advise everyone to stay away from them. Lol I can not express how dissatisfied I was with them......I am actually angry now, after having been reminded of the crap i had to deal with.

When I was WRX shopping in 03 Southern's sales staff was cool, but the manager (different person) didn't come off much on their price. I told them I was going to buy elsewhere for xxx price. She advised that the other dealership is lying to me on their price as it "can't possibly include destination"

Lets just say, the next day, I ended up paying about $800 less than Southern's lowest haggled quote.

Yeah, they tried that same trickery on me too. They seemed to have missed the part where I said repeatedly, "I used to sell cars". They actually tried to tell me that I couldn't get approved for a loan anywhere else

These tactics might have worked 15 years ago, when people didn't use the internet as much.

Default waldorf sucks

i have be stationed in md for about 2 years now. every time i have had to deal with them it has been a headache. it took the parts department 45 minutes to get six bolts and acted like i was bothering them . and before that the wife and i were looking at a forester and the sales woman was horible. she would not work with me at all , when i asked why she said it did not matter what we said or did . that the cars sell them selves and subaru doesn't let them lower the prices. (we ended up buying a loaded mountaineer ) .
i wonder wut the sales or general manager of the dealership would think of all the posts in this thread ? and how bad his dealerdhips suck a$$ .

You clearly haven't been to Waldorf since then either. Put it this way, all of DC, Baltimore and the metro areas' trash has migrated into this town and makes it so lousy. On top of all that you have these idiots trying to sell cars to vulnerable people, and yes they will rip you off. When I bought my wrx back in 2002, they had the nerve to sell us an entirely different car than what was on the paperwork for the bank. We were first time car buyers making lousy salaries and we were so excited about owning one that we accepted their crap just to get into the car. We were so dissatisfied that we went to see a lawyer in order to see if we could get the deal corrected but all in vain. Never again. Oh their service dep. will try to void your warranty at any chance they get. They can't even troubleshoot for S*#@! Bunch of dam retards, i don't even think they have been factory trained. Anyways if you are looking to get screwed by all means go here but if you want to skip the headaches, go elsewhere. Bunch of worthless idiots, dam I'm still mad and its going on 5 years since.

my mother and sister still live there - I go back quite frequently - although it's not necessarily my preference

perhaps the redneck comment was not completely accurate - but i do think i would go elsewhere to buy a car.

certainly annapolis subaru and wilkins subaru are able to deal with performance subaru cars/people - and stop in to yell at Jackie for some parts while you are there -

i know i'm old - but when i go back to waldorf it's like - what happened?

not sure how old you are, but I know Waldorf was once a big gambling district in MD. I think they even had a hotel called the Stardust (like they had in Vegas). I'm pretty sure this all came to an end some time in the 50's or 60's.

Default old username is DEAD

( i am infantsam - but i didn't feel like logging in/out)

The STARDUST!!! OMFG!! I lived there for a spell long after the luster of slots wore off..a DUMP! (1981-2). It was a crappy motel and nightclub for a while in that time period. (We didn't like 'disco' so we really didn't go there - but it was popular for a while.)

It was abandoned - and i think burned down not long after that.

oh the stories i could tell you about that place - cops/robbers - the whole thing

Rt 301 was the north / south highway prior to I-95 - so yeah in the 60'sish.

Waldorf was a 'truck stop' (the shells of old 'motels' are still there -= all the way down through LaPlata etc

They had slots in those days - as close to gambling as you could get back then. I-95 and other things shut that down and it was a sleepy little redneck town till DC 'expanded' in the 70's/80's.

man - I'm all sentimental...

I ditched my god awful first wife in that place too.

Sorry to revive an old thread, but nothing has changed. This dealership is now called Ourisman Subaru of Waldorf. Do not buy any used cars from them. If you're shopping for a Subaru in this area, go right to Annapolis Subaru. Check out this quote I got recently and the ridiculous fees they tacked on. This is for a 2013 Subaru Legacy Premium with 101k miles.

Total Sales Price: 10,000
NitroFill: 395.00
Smart Shield: 1,616.00
Wheel Locks: 295.00
IKON: 995.00
Doc Fee (Not Required By Law): 500.00
Tax: 828.06
Non-Tax Fees: 289.00
Balance: 14,918.06
