2005 sti to 2005 wrx swap
i have a 2005 sti with 300,000 miles on the chassis that is rotted and on its last leg. just purchased a 2005 wrx for a swap car. wondering if there is a comprehensive list for doing this swap? what from the sti has to go onto the wrx? obvious bits are engine, trans, diffs, axles, etc. i have newer suspension that i want to swap over. do the front and rear subframes need to be swapped? assuming the entire wiring harness front to back, ecu, cluster, column, etc. what about bits like the abs unit, wiper motor, fuel hanger, etc. seen some posts mentioning they need to be swapped out as well. any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm in a similar boat, but going from a stripped WRX shell to an STI swapped chassis and figuring out which things to buy.
In terms of full functionality, I would strip everything you possibly can within reason off of your STI. If I was starting with a fully put together STI, that is exactly what I would do... From a manufacturing standpoint, I would imagine all 02-07 wiper motors are probably the same, but the ABS module and fuel hanger are different (better) on the STI than on the WRX. If you want to do it right so that you never have to touch things twice, then I would pull the subframes off of your STI and have them refinished and AT A MINIMUM install new bushings for the rear subframe and differential carrier (left side) (right side) (you'll thank yourself later for that). I'm sure you know, but you will also definitely want to make sure you swap the STI knuckle/spindle, otherwise your STI axles won't fit. I would also definitely swap the STI steering rack over as it is also better than then WRX rack. |
