I'm rocking 245/40/17 17x8 +45 no rubbing but I wanted it lower so I rolled. At stock height no rub. At finger gap no rub. I'm on kw coils. I'm looking into getting 17x9 with the same size tire. It should fit without major modifications. Check out 'wagons can be stuffy' thread.

Go for it, they'll clear on stock fenders. I'll post pictures if I get a chance but all I have is my iPhone camera, picture quality is mediocre at best. I really like the 235/45 profile, fills the wheelwell much better, having a bit more tire side wall protects the rim better and the tire rides better. The gearing will get a little higher, rpm's will drop by a few hundred at 70 mph and get a bit better fuel economy, all positive from my perspective. If you like really short side walls it won't be your cup of tea. You could go to 235/40 without rubbing issues also but your gearing will be higher than stock, higher rpm's at 70 mph, less rim protection on potholes, rougher ride, more fuel consumption.

I am for sure going with 45 series. I was going to just get 17x7.5 +45. Your post was just what I was looking for because I would prefer the wheel not to be sucked in the sidewall as much. I don't want to go with a crazy low offset either. 17x8 +45 should be perfect!

Looking for some advice please. I don't want coil overs, and I'm looking for maybe 10mm drop a little more or a little less Im not to concerned just getting some opinions.

Current setup.
2005 WRX Wagon
Stock Struts and Springs
Enkei Evo 5 18x7.5 +44
Federal SS 595 235/40ZR18 91W
Have yet to try anything to fix rub issue. (new setup)
I get rub when I corner hard on both front along the outside edge of the tires. It also rubs sometimes on sharp bumps in the rear along outside edge as well.

Side Pic: http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a2...ps45d596c0.jpg

Thanks for any advice.

2005 WRX Sportwagon
Billstein PSS-9 Coilovers and 20 mm GD STi rear sway bar
Enkei RPF-1 17x8 +45
Bridgestone Potenza RE-070 225/45/17
With rear coilovers at maximum height and firmest damping, left rear rubbed until I rolled rear fenders.

On stock struts and springs with 20 mm GD STi rear sway bar, no rubbing with any of the wheel/tire combos below:

Rota SDR 17x7.5 +48
Bridgestone Potenza RE-070 225/45/17

Enkei RPF-1 17x8 +45
Bridgestone Potenza RE-070 225/45/17

(Setup below already had fenders rolled before returning to stock suspension, but I assume it wouldn't rub since the RE-11 shoulder doesn't look as square and wide as the RE-070.)

Rear tires rub on dips on the freeway and when cornering quickly...It really bothers me, but I love the way it looks. :/

So I'm looking for wheels that won't rub. I've had 2 other wagons and never had this problem, of course the wheels weren't so aggressive. One had Enkei RPF-1, the other had STI BBS wheels. The search continues...

Default Confirmed 225/45-17" tires that fit lowered WRX Wagon

2003 wrx wagon
Stock 2003 wagon suspension
2011-14 stock WRX rims
17x8 +53 offset
225/45/17 Sumitomo HTR Z III
No spacers used

Tires do not have any lip protecting bead. The lip protecting beads may cause the tires to rub the struts as did the stock 235/45/17 dunlops. With the 225 and no lip bead there are no current rubbing issues.

Default 2006 WRX Wagon

1) The lowered suspension set-up you chose (actual drop if available)
D2 Coilovers (the $995 ones) =[

2) The wheels you chose (size & offset).
BBS CH 17x8.5 ET35

3) Your Tire brand and model (confirm that they are 225/45-17).
Nitto NT-05 255/40R17

4) Any modifications made to prevent rubbing?
Adjusted ride height up until I roll the fenders

5) Are you rubbing??? (yes or no)
Not any more except over excessive terrain. I have the usual rust (NY car). Planning on rolling the fenders and bringing it back down where I want it and will eventually be installing flares to fit the fitment better.

Default rubbing setup

1) The lowered suspension set-up you chose (actual drop if available)
stock suspensions

2) The wheels you chose (size & offset).
Mak Fiorano 17x7 ET35

3) Your Tire brand and model (confirm that they are 225/45-17).
215/50-17 Toyo Proxes R32

4) Any modifications made to prevent rubbing?
no, buying new wheels

5) Are you rubbing??? (yes or no)
Yes.
Something around 10-15mm.
Under hard cornering, or when loaded (finger space between tire and fender arch) and got the smallest bumps (even around 30mph).

When looking after new wheels I found out that (for 2004 TS wagon)
- tirerack.com says 17x7 et45 is fine (even et42 since you can choose it)
- tirerack.com says 17x7.5 et48 is fine
- Team Dynamics (GB rim producer) says Pro Race 1.2 7x17 et45 is fine w 215/45-17 (that I didn't risk to try according my calculations from stock setup: https://www.wheel-size.com/calc/ )
- Local rota dealer says 17x7.5 et48 is fine w 215/45-17 tires

- read several forums, concluding on et50+ is the "offset nirvana" that won't rub even with 225s.

Default +35 offset out of the question?

So the wheels that I really want only come in a +35 offset and the guys over at custom offsets say they will fit fine, but in researching over the last couple of weeks it seems like almost everybody is running +45 or higher.

Would 17x8 +35 225x45x17s fit or do I need to ditch this dream?

I briefly ran 18x8.5 et45 with 225/40/18 Yokohama V601 with stock suspension with no issues. Only when I had 2 full-sized adults in the back seats did I lightly scrub the inner fender.

My current issue is finding wheels that both fit the wagon AND clear Brembos. I'm currently using 2004 STi BBS's.

I would like a 8 wide with a 235 tire. Either 17 or 18.
