Just go to the dealer, they will let you test drive it. Just be clear you DO NOT intend to buy. Tell them you are in the research phase of your car buying experience and just throw some other cars in the mix. Say "im gonna go test the mazda 6 after this".

I've test driven many cars after making it clear that I'm not buying the car today or even in the market at all. I've also been turned down several times too tho. It's interesting to see how you're treated when you let them know that they're not going to make a sale with you that day.

Being ready to make a purchase "today" should definitely not be a requirement to take a test drive. I bought my WRX 9 months before the lease was up on my previous car because I got a test drive from a friendly salesman. The test drive is what got me into the market.

Having said that, it's nice to drive a car that's broken in so that you don't have to keep the revs low.
