Any other 0.02?

I am getting a built block and contemplating doing the lower delete (I have the upper one).

It really looks like an obstruction. My installer believes it helps direct air.

well the tradeoff with TGVs is worse low RPM tumble for more high RPM flow. i imagine this would be similar: without the divider you'd lose more (insignificant?) low end torque because the air won't increase in velocity to make it through the now two smaller pathways.

I'm like 99% certain the TGVs are always open at WOT, regardless of RPM. Maybe during spool they aren't, but with high boost, intake port velocity doesn't matter that much.

Like I said, they are literally an extension of the TGVs to keep the air to the one side of the port. With DI, there has to be some degree of tumble to the air entering the cylinders, so it really just enhances the effect for part throttle.

Used the Subie Bros kit this weekend to clean my valves! The job really wasn't bad at all-- surprising simple to get to the valves even with all the extra hoses from my AOS.

2015 WRX w/ 33k mi.

Mods (For what it's worth):
- GrimmSpeed StealthBox Intake
- GrimmSpeed EBCS
- PRL TGV Deletes - Installed at ~13k mi
- IAG EGR Block Off - Installed at ~13k mi
- Crawford AOS - Installed at ~20k mi
- PRL Charge pipe
- MAP TMIC
- Invidia Catless J-pipe
- Invidia Q300 Catback

Mine weren't awful, but still nice knowing they're clean. Surprising how much worse yours were gosefroba, considering you also have EGRD and AOS.

Impossible for me to say just how beneficial the EGR Delete and AOS are, but confident they have at least some impact-- my TGV deletes were nice and clean compared to the TGVs I removed pre-AOS. Will definitely be doing this again in another 30k mi.

It will be interesting to see if people who do EGR delete need to reclean valves, or if they only need cleaned once at that point.

EGR and AOS won't prevent it, hopefully just reduces it. Unless you have meth or auxilary injection you're gonna get buildup.

I went ahead and added the FreeCAD model I made into that Google Drive folder. If anyone wants to open it and mess with it feel free. If you make improvements please add the improved file to the folder.

https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B7...UlNSFh1T25aYWc

Edit: Just use a store bought one. I made my own because none were available. It worked OK, but from what I've heard, the ones for sale now are better. For instance: https://subiebros.com/subie-bros-fa2...lnut-blasting/

I'll have a functional water meth kit soon. I also happen to have brand new valves. When I pull my tgv deletes to add port injection I'll snap some pics and note the mileage

Performed the walnut blast over the weekend on my brothers WRX. Took us awhile to try and come up with a rod for the blaster and vacuum adapter. But overall it came out pretty good. I ended up ordering the subiebros adapter and a BMW walnut blaster rod so that it could be a one man job when I have to blast my valves. Currently I have 44k miles on my motor and installed TGV and EGR deletes back when I hit 14k miles. So we will see how much gunk I have and post pics when this is completed

I walnut blasted my friend's Forester XT on Sunday. He has 94,000 miles on it, so I figured his valves would be absolutely caked with carbon. Nope. His looked better than mine did with just 38,000 miles. His EGR tube was 50-60% blocked though. I used a screw driver and just scraped gobs of carbon out of the tube.

Also, the Forester has a bit tighter engine bay with a bit more in the way. Made it a little harder to maneuver the blasting wand and much harder to get decent pics of the valves.

Here's a before pic looking into the least obstructed port. I didn't bother with afters (they were clean).

FYI. I can't see any of the original poster's pictures.

So I've been looking at this issue the last night (since I'm new to Turbo & DIT & carbon buildup) and I was wondering, have anyone thought about scoping it first to see if you need to do the valve cleaning?

Dirty intake valves https://imgur.com/gallery/6LIJb

Here's my valves after only 10,500 miles. Crawford aos and tgv deletes installed at 7,500. I ended up diying it with the subibros adapter and harbor freight blaster.

Hey everyone,

Sorry for the long delay in getting these pictures fixed. Damn photobucket!

Haven't checked my car since I did it at 12K miles just to see what it looked like. Prob won't do mine again until I get to around 60K miles. Car has 22k miles currently and has been running great as my DD. I did end up deleting the EGR to help with build up. Did TGV's, boost controller, and intake/box as well. Stock exhaust. Got protuned by Matt Miner at WicketMattTuning and made 303whp and 308 wtq. High torque doesn't come on till after 4krpm so I don't shoot a rod through my block and it pulls all the way to redline. Night and day compared to Cobb Stage 1 OTS.

There was a shop who I hit up with this to say but it was more than a year ago:

Oh well, I ordered SubieBros adapter and I’ll just do it myself.

Awesome thread and info here! Curious to see if anyone in SoCal who has the subiebros kit (or just the necessary tools to do the job) would be willing to lend their tools for a fee?

I'm planning to install TGV, EGR deletes, and a Crawford AOS soon but wanted to take care of my intake valves before installing these parts.

i think its pretty clear from the pics in this thread that an aos and egr delete do nothing to reduce carbon build up.

What about just running a intake and combustion chamber liquid cleaner through the intake, maybe even doing it twice? I've seen them make the intake and valve tops look really clean. I'm not a fan of blowing out clouds and fogging the atmosphere, but some work pretty well. Seems like disassembling and blasting is a more risky process, open to more possibility of mistakes being made. Not saying those valves don't look great after, just seems very involved and risky.

This stuff is what we use when customers want the intake system cleaned: https://www.bgprod.com/catalog/gasol...valve-cleaner/ I used a similar product when working at a dodge dealer in the past, and a couple of times we pulled the manifold off to see the results, which were impressive. At Toyota we also used a similar product. I haven't pulled the intake from a honda after a service yet, but going by how spotless the throttle body is afterwards, I'd venture a guess the rest of the intake tract is a lot cleaner as well.

I've got 10k miles of meth port injection on my motor. Seriously thinking about pulling one of the TGV deletes and sticking a inspection camera in there.
