1st gen 4EAT flashing powerlight
hey guys hows it going? i asked this same question over at legacycentral and got no help so i have come to you!
well my car does a few weird thing when i start my car with the fwd fuse in, the power light will come on, not flash then go out. and the car drives just fine. but then i start the car with out the fuse in (awd) the power light will come on, flash a few times, then go out. and also when i drive away with out that fuse in, it stays in 1st gear up untill around 4000rpm then it will shift. it only does that the 1st time you drive after starting it up though. so what could cause it to stay in 1st like that? and is the flashing power light bad and what can i do about it? i checked the tcu codes and came up with it it flashing 3 times then did two quick flashes then 3 then two quick and so on does that mean that its "32 Vehicle speed sensor 1" ? what can i do about that and would that be making it stay in 1st like that?

sounds like you need to replace that speed sensor, that could be causing all of your issues. I'm not exactly sure what you mean about a "powerlight" though. Not a CEL?

The autoboxes have a "power" light, that turns on when there are AT error codes, or when "power" mode is turned on by a toggle switch. All it really does it raise the shift points to near or at redline.
I have poked around a bit here and on the LCBBS, and haven't been able to find a reall answer for you. It might be time to buckle and give a local dealer a ring and see if they can help you figure it out. |

After reading up a bit more on the Subaru bulletins I have...
a slow flash means 10, and a quick flash means 1. three slow flashes 3x10=30 and two slow flashes 2x1=2 30+2 = code 32. According to this chart I guess its vehicle speed sensor 1 http://img122.imageshack.us/img122/6...eatdiag5kw.jpg *note that this chart is for phase 2 4eat, where there is no power light and instead a ATF light. Im not sure if the ATF light will flash many short flashes, or a combination of short and long just like the power light. Chances are it applys to both phase 1 and phase 2 |

All it says is that its located on the rear of the transmission. From this is seems to be on the left side.
Its resistance should be between 450 and 650 Ohms. If not then its faulty |

The speed sensor is located inside the trans extension housing on the first gen legacies.

Do you have the resistance specs and images of the VSS 2?

Thanks for sharing this info. Would you happen to have the resistance specs and a location image for the Vehicle Speed Sensor 2 (VSS 2) on a 92 Legacy AWD 4EAT? I'm getting both TCU error codes 32 and 33. Do you have any ideas where both VSS's can be purchased if needed? Thanks, ErixPC |
