Default What are your STI snow tire/wheel setups?

Hi,

I just bought my 3rd subaru: a 2019 STI limited and I'm curious what y'all are running for winter wheels and tires? For my last two cars (03 WRX and 08 OBXT), I have put winter tires on the stock wheels and summer tires on aftermarket wheels.

However, I like the stock STI wheels and I'm thinking of steelies for the winter tires for a more pragmatic approach and unrefined look. Any suggestions on size? I'm thinking less wheel and more tire..

Interested to hear what you run!

Thanks

I had a wrx with 235 45 R17 stock rims.

With Bridgestone blizzaks ws80s.

Like glue.

It was difficult to snow drift. A lot of people say they feel like summer tires. Compared to all seasons, they absolutely felt like racing slicks.

For an sti, id get an 18 rim, 17s won't clear the brembos.

Thanks! I didn't think about needing to clear the larger calipers. Steel wheels might not work at all then.. something I'll need to research

I am curiois on snow performance and dry.

So my blizzaks were like a flat tire in the dry, like glue on snow and fine on ice.

How did you guys like your tires performance snow and dry?

The alpin PA4s are excellent in the dry cold. Impressive grip. But you do sacrifice a bit of traction in deeper snow performance.
I’ve had a few sets of blizzaks in the past and while they are better in the deep snow they aren’t as good in the dry cold.
I don’t usually need to drive in heavy snow so that’s why I opted for the PA4s.

Cooper Evolution Winter is good.
Not sure about the size for you,
but I would just try to find a set of used 18" stock wheel from other Subaru model.

Thanks for the replies here. I went with a set of stock wheels from a 2018 WRX, got them refinished, sandblasted, and powder coated bronze. Wrapped them in Blizzaks. Ready for winter!

Beautiful powder coat finish! We'll start the winter setup on the car once we takeout the truck in the garage. The General Grabber Arctic LT and method wheels arrived and still waiting for the rotors. Gonna look for WRX wheels.
