Great perspective!

It seems like light years ago that manufacturers would actually homologate cars to fit certain classes/series.

I would be a fan as well to see the Impreza shrink in size a bit to seemingly be a bit more competitive in motor sports, but it probably won't happen, especially since the WRX is enjoying record sales numbers as is.

Its 100% a wheelbase issue. I've been saying this for over a year now.

This - can't fight physics

Or can we ? We found something in a test a week ago that gave us more gains in 3 hours than we've found in 3 years...

I was in AC for a GRC race last year. I physically watched with my 2 eyes, Scott Speed in a VW (2nd) close a 3 or 4 second gap to not only catch Patrick Sandell in his Subaru (1st) but also pass him, in only maybe 3 or 4 laps. That's utterly insane. The VWs corner soooooo much better than the longer Subarus. They get on the throttle soo much earlier you can hear it

Sandell jokered 2nd lap - Scott jokers 5th lap to close the gap instantly

Scott closed a 1.737 sec gap over 4 laps - yes ?

Could have swore they said it was more when I was there, but you have the numbers. The lead looked huge. 1.7 sec is still alot

Where the VW's are leaving the Subarus behind is at the start. They jump ahead to a full car length lead off of most starts. The lap times are often very close, depending on the circuit. In Trois Rivieres, Atkinson had the fastest lap time of the entire field after day one.

Scott Speed especially, and Tanner Foust are so good that once they get that lead, more often than not it's game over.

Yes, Subaru is a cool car, but I dream of a Ferrari. That's only bank managers do not drive Ferraris

Let's hope Scott can pull some more speed out of this chassis. I wonder who didn't get resigned for 2019? Travis perhaps?

More "rumor" than anything, but since the current WRX size always comes up, this would be a bit more interesting for sure:

From Spyder7.com

Quote:
The information that Subaru is developing a new hatchback in European segment B was obtained by the scoop site Spyder 7. There is a possibility that it may be in adjustment for 2020 WRC (World Rally Championship) return.

According to manufacturers, the brand is suffering from a declining presence in Europe since the withdrawal of the WRC. So, targeting Toyota "Yaris" who played back WRC, he seems to be trying to return to WRC.

Subaru was fighting at the WRC in the 1990 's, along with Toyota and Mitsubishi. But after the withdrawal of Toyota in 1999, Mitsubishi in 2005, Subaru withdrew in 2008, there was no domestic car entry race from 2009 to 2016.

But in 2017 Toyota returned and was showing excitement such as winning. In 2019, all 14 races will be held, but unfortunately Japan, which had been applying for holding, has been sent off. However, the WRC Japan Round Bid Committee is working towards hosting the Olympic Year's 2020 in Japan, and there is plenty of possibility of realization. Subaru is likely to aim and there is a high possibility to introduce a new model.

At the Spyder 7 scoop team, I made a prediction CG of a new hatchback. Adopted a powerful design with low & wide body silhouette for headlights inspired from "VIZIV performance". Details such as side incorporate Subaru latest design. The powertrain seems to high tune the 1.8 liter horizontally opposed 4 cylinder direct injection turbo engine planned to be installed in the new "Levog".

If development goes smoothly, the birth of the new hatchback should be within 2019.

I thought that Subaru withdrew from the WRC in 2013 when the new 1.6L restriction was implemented?

Also, Subaru is doing decent in Travis' Nitro RallyX. Which in my opinion is the best edition to RallyX since the start. We've all related RallyX to MotoX/SuperX, and the Nitro Rallys are more intense and closer to MotoX than ever. While Rally will never exceed Group Bs thrill, its nice to see the supercars still racing here in america and on the Nitro Rally circuit.

Subaru keeps making the car bigger - of course sales suffered in Europe. Walk around over there and IF you see one it's the biggest car on the road.

In the US, sales on the WRX/STI keeping getting better because Americans love huge cars

Prediction - Europe gets a new small Subaru and the US doesn't

Subaru withdrew midseason in 2008 just after introducing the new chassis.

Prediction - Subaru will cancel his Europe business because of stricter emission laws, why bother when your business with Europe is less than 10 % of your american business

hint: Germany is the biggest market for Subaru in Europe, and they sold 6422 cars from January to October 2019

Because companies want to grow, so they study "what's wrong" in bad trending markets they want to do better in, make changes and work to improve those markets.
I.E - "oh, we need a smaller car for the Europe market" Not "oh we suck there, lets quit"

So lets celebrate good news!

https://www.subaru.com/content/subar...new-motor.html

Curious to the updates on this years chassis, first thing i can see is theres quite a bit more caster in the front end compared to the current car, im guessing completely new suspension geometry front and rear.

The car looks incredible.

But while they are at it, throw a black inlay where the "hood scoop" is, so it doesn't look like an unfinished hotwheels car. Why wouldn't someone think to have that area blacked out? That's crazy that the team would go back to WR Blue and make such a stunning looking car, only to miss such a detail like this. Virtually everyone that owns a WRX has a hood scoop! Give the appearance that Subaru's Rally car does as well!

In any case, bravo to the person responsible for ditching the grey with awful livery. This is a professional motorsports team, they should look the part. Can't wait to see it with the sponsorship signage on it.

Found a good shot of the rear suspension on the press car, looks to be one of the old 2016/2017 cars. Its probably this is exact car that was being disassembled last time i was there

I guess the traffic/interaction in this thread was a sign of things to come, i cant say im suprised to see that ARX is done but thats a big bummer for the VSC guys. It'd be super cool if they could get into some road racing series
