Default 2nd new engine block in a month...

'12 Impreza 2.0i was eligible for small block replacement due to excessive oil consumption. Tech didn't even bother measuring oil because it was losing enough.

So last last week I picked up the car after small block replacement, drove it 1/2 mile down the road and had a God awful smell and it hardly ran without stalling out. Turned right around and and had the service advisory hop in and run it, and he just looked at me puzzled and said "well I haven't even checked in your rental so here you go and we'll call you back when we find something"

Got a call today and they said when they checked the oil, there was metal all over throughout the oil and they believe it is an oil bearing. Subaru is sending a brand new motor, but I don't know if that mean a new crate motor, or just another small block assembly with rings again.

Either way, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't slightly reluctant to pick the car back up when this is done. I know mechanics are short changed hours and really hope this is a one time thing and not the dealership creating some more demons for me or SOA sending bad parts for warranty work.

Subaru doesn't do "crate" motors. Only short blocks. I've seen them do a long block once and that was when they knew they put in the wrong cranks when they switched over to the nitride crank back in 08'. Think they only sent out 12 when those cars came back with spun bearings.
