OK, so I'm catless in NJ....do you think I'm passing? I can put the third cat eliminator on since I have a lift but I'm way too lazy. Anyone here pass inspection catless in NJ?

Last time I went to inspection they mirrored under the car to look for a cat. From then on I now spring the extra $60 and go to a gas station just in case something goes wrong.

Wouldn't it just be smarter to just spend the extra $100 and get a cat? Unless you're running some monster, it's not worth the trouble.

At my last inspection they used a mirror to look for the cats and also looked closely under the hood.

I am worse off than just a cat cause the UTEC makes my OBII useless! I have modded injectors so I can't take it off and try to go through either

im in the same position as you, granted my inspection isn't until next fall 2007.

probably just gonna slap on the stock DP again, sell off the Helix catless one I have and call it a day. was going to sell the car shortly thereafter.

even if they dont use a mirror. would it pass hte sniffer test?

i just passed with a high flow cat, it is NOT visible from under the car (in the DP) and they passed me with no gripes at a state facility.

On a OBDII car you get no sniffer. They plug into you OBD port and that is it on the engine part of inspection aside from them looking to see if the cat is there with a mirror.

I haven't taken my WRX through but I took my SVX and just took my Mark VIII to my friends garage for inspection and they didn't do a pipe test that I was able to see. I want to figure out a way to make a fake OBDII port so it passes the tests that inspection wants to see. Shouldn't be the hardest thing to make

It's looking like my options are to either weld a heatsheild on or swap in the 3rd cat to get through.....I'ld rather just pay for a sticker rather than deal with the hastle.....

$60? For what? To do a $18 inspection?

That stinks if they get to charge, in NY they are not allowed to charge you for more than the Inspection, not even $5 more I don't believe. They also can't charge a surcharge for things like Fish & Game permits. So while the Dicks Sports employee has to spend 20 minutes doing the paperwork for my hunting tags, the store doesn't get paid for it.

I think a "$60 inspection" might be to "gaurantee" the car passes legally. I believe some people in the tristate are unfortunate enough to go to gas stations where they have to pay for $200+ inspections... though only in cash... but yet, for some reason, they ALWAYS pass...

Maybe I'm interpreting it incorrectly...
Maybe I just enjoy using elipseseseses...
Who really knows...

Its not going to work for all OBDII cars as the scan will show a "Catalytic Converter not ready" error and you will fail with that alone. This is a known and troublsome item as those people even with a cat but with modded chips the piggyback ecu's (UTECs and the like) will also fail as the signal for the cats may be intercepted by the piggyback and give an incorrect or null reading which would not necessarily show as a CEL but will inform the tech that you were modded and fail the inspection as all readings would be invalid. Generally with the piggybacks (if mildly modded) you change the connections back to stock and then rewire afterwards. No cats though, is harder to pass as visual, OBDII and sound issues are almost always a problem.

Gas techs suppose to post the OBDII reports, can't bypass this supposedly.
