THE STORY:

Before the GC8:
When I was a kid, I was a subaru fanatic. I was in love with a car. This car didn't even exist to most people in the US. I would get on dial-up AOL/COMPUSERVE (the only internet at the time) and read news stories about this sport called WRC and this Colin McRae guy. As time passed, the 2.5RS came here and I loved it. I always, however, wanted something more like what Colin drove.
Eventually, I bought an 02 WRX and it was a LOT of fun. I drove it for 4 years including one cross country trip halfway across the USA. I sold it shortly before moving to Japan. I was a college student and working part time, so I did what I could with my budget. It was a fantastic car, however I decided to make a life change and move to another country:

Japan:

In Japan, I was a member of the car-less society there. I got into biking, but kept a small "subaru shrine" at my house. I'd print out pictures of the latest WRC car as well as a few classics and put them all in one spot in the room arranged in a sort of column. My fiance always knew I was a weird guy...
Eventually it came time for us to come back home and I was REALLY excited to get a car again. I missed the freedom of driving (why didn't you guys tell me how bad traffic was in big US cities? I lived in a town of 36,000 before!) and wanted something exciting. I didn't, however, want to just get another GD impreza, since I felt that my old car had taken me as far I could in that chassis and it was everything I wanted it to be.
She said to me "why don't you just get a GC STi"
obviously I laughed and said "but we don't have those in the US!"
She said "find one. Doesn't your friend have a GTR? They don't sell those either..."
That night I was surfing the web as usual and came across a post on nasioc...

This is where I met Dennis. He had a great car freshly swapped by ECS. It had a few bugs, but I knew the cars pretty well so it was no big deal. Before I even got home, I wired him the money and he graciously was patient with me being on the other side of the planet. The car was packed onto a truck and driven to Texas. When I arrived, I basically had a stock looking stock sounding GC coupe with an 04 sti motor in there. We managed to fix all the little bugs and start cracking the ECU. I had a friend's shop look over the bodywork. We went over all the spots on the car I wasn't happy with. They refinished the whole thing! every body panel was worked, massaged and sanded down. When I got the car back I was so HAPPY!
Meanwhile, I was waiting for a shipment of all my "stuff" from Japan, including all my business clothes! Months later it all arrived in a bunch of gigantic boxes. All that "stuff" is what makes my car unique. I hand picked it all from Japan while riding my bicycle to and from different car parts warehouses all over the country. I once made a 50km trek on foot and bike to get a steering wheel! It was VERY hot outside, too!

I love this car. Yes, it's a pain to find parts for it. I'm desperately searching for brake rotors that fit right now
Yes, I curse this car a lot because it's bright blue and loud and attention grabbing, including from the "wrong" folks. At the same time, it was the dream of a 15 year old boy that I still remember well. I spent most of my high school french class browsing french news sites to try and find the latest WRC reports.

Colin Mcrae's passing:

The saddest thing of it all: the day I got the car running and registered myself TJ and Butterz (to whom I both owe special thanks for helping me get this car together) were sitting in my parents garage. It was at that moment that we got the news. Colin McRae had died that morning. The same morning when my car was reborn. For this reason, I like to think that my car carries a little bit of Colin's spirit. He was a legend. There will never be another quite like him.

Default My RSTI

Time for my Entry:

back story:

My wife's father pre ordered the car in 1999 as a RBP coupe with gold wheels.
it showed up as a SRP car with silver wheels. he accepted anyways.

after driving it for 1 year he ordered the hyped up WRX and sold it to his daughter "my wife" she drove the car through out high school then on her 2nd year of college sold the car to her college professor a Family friend, and purchased the WRX from her father.

fast forward to me

i purchased an 05 STI in 04 and my wife and i met shortly after, we built her WRX up to a point to where it would need a 6 speed for anything further. we decided we liked the classic style and that if we were going to build a care we prefer it be a GC so we contacted the family friend and traded the two cars (with money of course!).

We now had the GC back.
this was in 2006.

sense 2006 i have began modifying the car my ultimate plan was to swap an STI drive train into it, i achieved this goal in January of 2007.

here are the photos of the car!

the swap i have completed is somewhat rare because the Auto DCCD is fully functional just as it was on the STI. every accessory works and functions just as it would in the stock STI. i did all of this while keeping the stock dash and utilizing the JDM V5 DCCD gauge cluster with functioning DCCD read out.

I did all of the mechanical work my self, the wiring was done by Zephyr out of New Jersey (Broken Motorsports).

Default Diga_Delay's 1998 STi Wagon

A buddy on our local forum told me to come post mine up so here it is.

Ever since I was in high school back in '99 and saw the WRC cars I have wanted a WRX but since we couldn't get them stateside it had to be an RS. In '06 I was lucky enough to happen upon a '00 BRP RS coupe when I was looking for a new daily driver to replace my old CRX. I fell in love again and bought it that day. I had plans to swap it at some point but you know how it takes money to do that which I didn't have. As I started to become involved in the Subaru community I grew a liking to the GF body. My wagon came up for sale at the begining of this year I said why not. I'll get everything I want all in one package. Turbo 2.5 motor, swapped interior, and it was all in a wagon. As soon as I drove it I started grinning from ear to ear cause I knew it was going to be mine.

I am the fifth owner so I don't know the whole story but I will tell as much as I can. The car started out as a '98 Outback Sport and was owned by a guy named Trent up in MI. He had a complete JDM Ver 3 EJ20K drivetrain swapped into it by Lachute Subaru up in Canada in 2002. The car was then sold to a guy named Mike that lived in IL. Like many have experienced the 20k block they had a bad bearing design and it had bearing failure so he swapped in a 04 USDM Sti short block to fix the problem. The stock ecu didn't like this so an Apexi Power FC was installed to replace it. At some point during his ownership the carbon fiber hood was installed but not painted. The car was then sold to a guy named Jon in NE. Jon didn't like the bare look of the hood so he had it painted to match the car and had the STi reverse stenciled on the hood. Then it was sold to another guy in NE named Dan. After a year or two of his ownership I was the lucky person to carry on the torch. I bought it this March and have loved everything about it since. I was already pretty happy with the fact that it made 315whp and even more torque on a very conservative tune so I concentrated on the exterior and some other odds and ends with the car. It is still in the process of looking like a real JDM STi wagon would look. After I get the rear aero gards on the next thing would be to paint the door handles and mirrors. Later I would like the upper Sti rear wing and maybe the lower one also.

At first it was my daily driver for about 4 months before gas got real bad so I bought a beater L to drive to work. Well I ended up driving the L more since it does get almost twice as much gas mileage and I don't feel as concerned about it when I go out. The wagon still gets taken out on nice drives during the weekend and it is also my autocross car. It can't be a total garage queen you know. I love the sleek subtle look of the wagon that most people don't know what it hides underneath.

The is the reverse stenciling of the hood. A STi sticker was laid down before paint and then removed before the clear coat was applied. Most people just think it's a sticker till they get up close and see the carbon fiber through the clear. Gives it a nice subtle touch.

Racing this past Sunday with the R-comps I got to borrow.

This was Saturday still on street tires.

Winter mode rocking the JDM goldies.

I did add a 04 STI hoodscoop splitter that I modified to fit inside the GC scoop which also had the sprayer nozzle on it. I wired in the nozzle to run off the rear window washer pump and used a JDM STI auto sprayer switch on the driver side knee panel.

It has JDM Ver 3 fron and rear wagon seats with ver 5 door cards and steering wheel.

Rally Cars !!! Fiesta!

Default Please put me on reserve if someone backs out...

So a few years back I started dreaming up this build. It went through many transitions, colors, components, etc. in my head before I decided to start purchasing all the parts.

Basically here is the jist of it all. Started off with a 1995 Impreza LX coupe $700 special. Car was actually in great shape, but it just didn’t run. This is actually the exact car I was looking for because of its special little differences. Car stock came with rear disc brakes, flat fuel door, power antenna, trunk light, and rear fold down seats.

Once I got the car it sat for about a year till I was ready to pull out my drivetrain from my swapped RS to get the RS ready for PGT competition rally, that’s a whole other story in itself…with everything out of the RS I was ready to start the project full speed ahead.

Car in my 1 car garage, 3 feet off the ground and completely stripped to a bare shell. This originally green with tan interior automatic 2.2 na car was going to get the works.

The color scheme was actually a choice that came from me wanting something different from any other swapped Impreza out there. I wanted a factory Subaru color that was never used on an Impreza from the factory. So I bit down really hard and said what the hell, I’ll take a chance on it. Champagne Gold Opal is the result you see. In other terms your grandma is probably driving an 05-06 Outback with this identical color. Yup its an 05-06 Outback/Tribeca color called Champagne Gold Opal. The gold and black theme was really the only thing that was going to work in my mind. So no gold rims on this subie, sorry. All exterior moldings were meticulously detailed, prepped and painted by me in flat black. This was a task that took me close to 15hrs for all moldings and such.

The drivetrain at the time of build was actually from my RS. It was an usdm EJ205 with vf28 and a few other nice little bits to get it kicking more. The trans was an actual STi ver.6 RA piece with a Turbo Legacy rear. 3 diffs and a 4.44 FD really make this thing go in a hurry!

Suspension is DMS 40’s, really cant find a better all around coilover, but then again these things aren’t cheap.

Brakes are simple yet more than enough stopping power, Group N rally cars use this stuff. Subaru 4pots up front with RS rear brakes. HP+ pads and DBA rotors.

The interior is a bit more attention to detail. Sparco Milano’s in black alcantara. Bought the same material from Sparco to cover the door panels, rear seats, rear speaker deck, headliner and shift boot. The black carpet is from an STi limited. The dash is converted to RS along with seat belts, A/B/C pillars and center console. The complete doors are not L, but RS with the door panels. At this moment the complete dash has been flocked black along with the center console and more flocking will prob occur for the tops of the door panels around the alcantara soon.
