Default Pre-AutoX Season Training Camp

Paisan suggested I start on thread on gauging interest on an install day with AZP on March 29th at Paisan's place in Staten Island. We can install our latest mods just before NASA's kickoff event on the 30th. (And peek at what the competition will bring.)

Please post if interested.

Ok folks, AZP is gonna hold another of it's infamous Installfests... March 29th in Staten Island. This is the day before the NASA opening Auto-x.

Springs, Brakes, etc. etc. Lets get the cars ready for auto-x and spring in general!

I'm contacting Lee currently to see if he'll be there, most likely he will be there unless he's out of town that weekend

Any motorcycle shop. There should also be a link on the NASA site. The links they have on there usually give discounts to NASA members.

They will also have loaners available at the auto-x.

yeh what nctrl said, any local motorcycle shop. You can get a regular plain helmet for cheap. Don't really need any of those fancy $500 helmets wth designs etc....unless of course you're planning on getting an R6

A motorcycle helmet is fine for autox, but anyone planning to do track events should get an SA rated helmet. The ones you get at a motorcycle shop will be M rated. The SA rating is generally preferred for track use and some organizations require them. Not sure about NASA but I'm sure someone will post- Spence?

A side note, we were at the OMP safety seminar on saturday.

If you are planning on doing track days with BMWCA or SCCA or Emira, you might want to get a SA 2000 helmet instead of the M2000. M2000 is fine for NASA-x and Auto-x but might as well get the SA one if you are gonna get one.

If you want, wait til after March 29th or March 30th and anyone from Team IAC that was at the Safety Seminar will gladly go over them and let you test out various styles with yah.

you can read about nasa and helmets here
http://www.nasanortheast.net/helmets.shtml

According to the nasa site: you can use either sa or m rated helmets for both nasa auto-x and hpde events...at least snell m90 for auto-x and snell m95 for hpde, or snell sa95

the difference: M is designed for motorcyle use...Sa is designed for auto racing(has fire retardent, designed for impacts seem in car crashes etc....)

M90 will only be good for another year. M95 will only be good for 3-4 years MAX. Basically you want a 2000 rated one so that it will last longer. SA are tested for hitting a rollbar in addition to the other tests.

yeh it's a good idea to get at least 95, better yet 2000. FYI most shops don't even sell m90 anymore.....mostly 95 and 2000....at least the shops in my neck of the woods Haven't checked recently, is 2000 the latest still? Do they change every 5yrs, or just when they come up with new standards for whatever reason

every 5 years but say a 2000 usually gets shipped in 01 or 02 they are 1-2years behind the rating year.

roughly how big is your head?

i have a 2nd motor cycle helmet here i want to part with thats to small for me IIRC its Medium, its been just sitting getting smelly (nothing some effort couldnt get rid of). a few small nicks, nothing big (from being moved w/o a bag)

Look it up if you like, its a HJC LT-20 solid Black DOT-218 and SNELL-M2000 approved.

if anyone is interested make an offer.

:::nevermind, link wont work. ill post a actual pic if anyone is seriously interested:::

Thanks for the info guys. I'll go w/ what Mike (N'CTRL) suggested for now and just get a loaner at the event. Then if I get addicted to this stuff like everyone I'll spring for a sa 2000 helmet =)

Yup even if there aren't enough loaners from NASA, between Team IAC and the rest of the Subaru community there are plenty of "loaner" helmets out there.
