See Greg, even Subie Gal admits that rally drivers are inferior drivers that just happen to be crazy!

I don't think you're slow or lack funds so please explain what caused the long build time. Whats was done that was so labor intensive? (from tech point of view)

Thanks

Greg

I think what they were trying to say is that the car didn't take years to make (actually 10 days IIRC) but the relationship between Crawford and Ken took years to make.

They still continue to house Ken's car at their shop. I just saw it last week. (had to go to Cali for a funeral)

Did they use any aftermarket DCCD controllers?

yeah, I'm gonna disagree. I think a FEW people could do that, Ken Block being one of the FEW.

This thread was good until some had to be too cool to enjoy the video and give props where props are due.

Here are the facts:

1. Ken Block = BOMB ASS driver
2. That video was awesome
3. Rallying kicks ass and clearly requires not only adrenaline and an appetite for destruction but uncanny control, focus, and skill. So do a lot of other motorsports in their own right.
4. 99.99999999999% of NASIOC can't do either so just enjoy watching those who can and hope you have an opportunity to even try one day.

That is all.

I'm imagining it cost DC a lot of money to make this vid

Just to rent this field it must have been a small fortune

Being LA you prob needed shooting permits, ambulances and not to mention he had to pay for the media crew and production

but...

I'm not trying to take anything from Ken because he is a very good driver but on an airfield you're not going against the clock so it's pure fun and messing around

I know 20 guys who could do it - given the opportunity (which they don't have)

If you stop feeding the stray animal, he will go away and we can all go back to discussing the awesome non-animal video.

I won't say who the animal is, but it's somewhere right above my post.

The thread was fine until Gregalicious took umbrage with the f4nb01 moniker and proceeded to talk about things and people he had no knowledge of.

1. What the hell is a "Bomb Ass" driver? Not sure I'd want to be his Navi he's dropping ass in the car all the time.

2. Indeed cool, but still not gymkhana in it's true sense and not one continuous shot which would have made it epic.

3. I don't think most race car drivers (rally, road race or otherwise) have an appetite for destruction. Sponsors don't like their cars being destroyed and having to be rebuilt all the time.

4. Agreed, but don't expect people to hold the same level of awe of a guy with a lot of time and money do this. And props to KB for doing what others can't.

Weird. In the first 15 seconds of the video, the only real corner I saw him take anywhere NEAR sideways included braking and a downshift to 4th. That was at the 9 second mark. And he counter steered for a couple of seconds. Perhaps your definition of sideways is different then mine...

Greg, just so your clear on my position. Rally drivers, while slightly insane, have all my respect. In fact, their level of insanity actually adds to the respect I have for them. Your claim that they are better then everyone else because they "go sideways at 100mph 2ft from trees" is bunk. I don't care whether you think they are better then everyone else or not. Your opinion. Your "fact" that you use to support that claim flies in the face of physics. The video's you've posted support my position, that while they may go fast in the mostly straight sections, they aren't doing that speed 2ft from a tree with the car completely sideways. Completely sideways to me doesn't mean you have to add a little counter steer. It means, you are completely effin sideways with full opposite lock, inches from sheer disaster. Ya gotta first finish if you hope to finish first, and even a rally driver knows that the reward for that kind of risk usually comes with nurses and pain.

Little counter steer will get the hair on the back of your neck standing if you're going 100 on gravel.

If you're using that much steering input on a rally stage (especially on the really fast corners), you're doing it wrong.

I've gone 80mph+ plenty of times through turns on gravel roads and dirt roads. I'm usually too busy keeping the right velocity and drift angle to notice the trees. I would never want the car to be pointed 90° from the direction I'm travelling, though, and the steering wheel is usually within 45° of dead center.

And given a few million dollars, and access to facilities like that for regular practice, I'd be driving that way all the freaking time. When I win the lottery, I'll provide the videos.
