Default Hyundai Veloster Turbo Heading to SEMA Show with Rally Car Style

Quote:
The SEMA Show is sneaking up on us again and one of the first vehicles we’re learning about is the ARK Performance Hyundai Veloster.
Set to be unveiled at the Korean automaker’s stand at the annual aftermarket expo and built by ARK Performance, the rally-car styled Veloster will get some massively flared fenders and a custom interior – with the obligatory blinged-out audio system like no one told them it’s not 1998. Perhaps more exciting is a twin-scroll turbocharger under the hood helping the Veloster make 210-hp. While not breathtaking performance, it’s a solid hint at the amount of power a rumored factory Veloster Turbo could make. Sadly, this isn’t a production engine, but a custom turbo setup.
This latest show car marks the third time Hyundai and ARK Performance have teamed up for SEMA, with a Genesis Coupe on display last year and a Tiburon before that.

This thing had 'aftermarket-mayhem' written all over it when it was confirmed it was going to be a production model.

It will be very interesting to see what the 'tuner' community does with this vehicle once they have time to fully exploit it.

Make it AWD too and we have a winner. They are putting one in WRC in 2013, so it could happen.

Good for Hyundai then, because Honda dropped the ball.

The Genesis Coupe was supposed to be a huge thing for aftermarket tuners as well. Is it popular with tuners? It's an honest question - I see lots of Genesis Coupes around here, but all appear to be stock.

I still like the idea of Hyundai promoting customization though!

We're excited to have the opportunity to work with ARK on this new platform. The Veloster interior should be showing up within the next week or so I'll be sure to post a few updates to our FB (facebook.com/jpmcoachworks) and a blog article or two. We will be attending SEMA this year as we are actively involved in three builds that will be on display in various spots. Look for this one in the Hyundai booth!

FWIW, the official press release may be found here, http://www.hyundainews.com/us/en-us/...?mediaid=34138

Cheers,
Alex

I have test driven a turbo 4cyl genesis coupe twice, not a bad car, but I found it "lacking" in certain areas.

Guys in Japan are doing amazing things, but not a lot of tuner support over here (COBB won't even touch them)

Kinda disappointing because I think the platform has amazing potential...

Oh well in 10 years it'll be the next DSM

Yep, the Gen Coupe has really had to be enthusiast-driven. Lots of homebrew tuning options because of the fact that companies like Cobb won't touch them. Why is that, by the way?

The guys at COBB plano told me because there is little to no demand...
Yet they tune Mazda speed 6's???

I think if a company with COBBs rep/track record started tuning them...
