Default What do you think happened to the STi these parts came from?

Seller on ebay has several auctions going from an 04 STi with a claimed 9 miles on it.

Complete engine/tranny - $8000
Front & Rear Seats - $1000
Strut Assemblies (with knuckles and hubs attached) - $1500
Front & Rear Brakes - $1500
Trunk Lid - $150
Steering Wheel (no airbag) - $100
Dashboard - $100
Steering Column - $150
Plus a few other bits. I assume the wheels were already sold.

What could have happened to this car that would cause enough damage without hurting the engine or suspension that it would be totalled out?

I call BS. That intercooler has some dings on it, and the turbo is nicely rusty. 9 miles? Eeehhh...

The odometer is in the dashboard, not the motor, so you can't prove he's lying.

I'm really concerned about the 9 miles part. Why do you think the car was taken apart?

Look at this suspension:

Forgot to mention the pedal assembly, with the plastic still on the pedals:

Who the heck knows... shoot him over an email saying that you don't buy the 9 mile story, but if he gives you more info on what REALLY happened you might still be interested in buying.

I mentioned the no airbag. But that doesnt explain much.

Totalling out a $30K+ that has no damage to the engine or suspension? The airbag might've fired, but how much damage to the car could there have been?

Notice how he's only selling the right tail light? I'd say a meteor from last night's meteor shower entered the left rear through the light, ripped up all of the rear body panels, rear seats, and then tore through the floor and blew up, leaving the car totalled with tons of quality parts still intact.

Maybe he rolled the damn thing. Who the hell knows. And why would you think someone could figure it out by posting parts. Ask the seller.

Obviously nobody can figure out what happened to the car by looking at parts. Thats why the thread title is what do you think happened.

The evidence seems a little peculiar, use your imagination a little.

Maybe the car is the STi that a salesman wrecked taking people out for a test drive at the Renick Subaru meet last November...

Was fired the next day.

Could have fallen off the delivery truck. My buddy worked at an Audi dealership and they had a brand new A6 in the back that rolled off the back of the truck, landed on the rear bumper and rolled over on the roof. Major damage to the rear and top of the car. No damage to engine, suspension, transmission, etc.
