Ceramic coating.
Try and do it as early as possible. The paint is TERRIBLE.

Other than that... wash, wax and a clay bar 1x or 2x per year seems to be enough.

I understand that this is an older topic, but its important to properly know how to maintain paint, especially on a literally new car.

Purchase a grit guard. or two. or three.
ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY in order to protect your freshly painted car.

Strip the paint using dawn dish soap, this will remove any coatings or grease or disgustingness carwash soap otherwise cannot.

Claybar the hell out of the thing, this will remove embedded contaminants. Immediately wipe off the surface once you are done claybarring with an appropriate quick detailer, so you do not leave any liquid to dry on the surface.

DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT use a "car wash" after claybarring. This will only add a layer of crap that coatings cannot stick to.
Its comparable to applying lotion to your skin after youve been sweating literally day. literally.

Instead, wipe down the car with a quick detailer, or wash it down again with dawn dish soap.

Apply a sealant.
You can use ceramic coatings, which takes a little longer, but apparently lasts for half a year, or you can use a traditional sealant.

Again, this goes back to the comparison of applying lotion to a sweaty face - you want the surface as naked as possible so that your coatings will adhere to your paint, not to the grime and sweat and disgustingness that's on top of the paint.

Wax as you normally would, and apply dressings to your trim.
Because you used Dawn dish soap, this removes ALL oils, including the protective oils in your plastics, which will otheriwse dry them out prematurely.

Otherwise..that's my paint regimen.

Are you looking to do a full blown decontamination and detail of the paint? Or just a wash and wax? Believe it or not but "new" cars are usually covered in contaminants.

Look up Pan the Organizer on YouTube. Learned a lot from watching his videos. Goes over a number of different products as well.

Also, if you have a pressure washer, foam cannons are fun to use. Foam cannons are not necessary by any means but it makes a tedious task a little more enjoyable.

Is there a good tl;dr on ceramic coating? There's so much info and so many rabbit holes that I feel like I'm drowning in it all.

How do you define necessary though? If it reduces scratching, is it necessary?

My thoughts after using one for 4 years now.. you'll never feel slicker while rubbing that wash mitt over the surface than doing it with a foam'd car. That slickness is scratch prevention and the foam is dissolving dirt before you ever touch the car vs. doing it as you wipe without pre-foaming.

I'm a fan of Menzerna 3in1 if you want to combine some steps- but it can be pretty pricey.

I like to use my Poorboy's quick detailer. Generally if rinse my car using a high pressure hose and then spray some quick detailer and wipe off.... frequent cleaning once a week is quicker then letting it build up.

Definitely be careful of creating scratches and swirl marks. It will save you money having to get them taken out in the future.
