I'm pretty sure if Subaru could churn out a ton more Imprezas, they'd be doing it. But you have to remember they are a small carmaker in the big scheme of things, and you don't just bring additional production on line like that. Unfortunately, it would appear that the smarter course of action right now is to NOT order your car, but find one in transit, then plug-and-play with the add-ons that would normally get installed at the port anyways. I doubt they realized how big of a hit the redesigned '12 was going to be. And as for the dealers taking orders that they won't be able to fill easily, that's business. I've seen a lot worse sleaze in the car biz than that, be thankful that they're not giving you more of a runaround and trying to hang onto your deposit to keep your business at their dealership.

Do some homework, check a lot of dealers, and see what you can find. You might not get exactly what you want, but with demand so high, beggars can't be too choosy.

I ordered a car to get exactly what I wanted. Otherwise I would be buying a used car. What's the fun in buying a new car you don't like 100%? In hindsight if I knew the wait was going to be that long I would have went another direction. Subaru needs to build more factories. It's clear they need to step up from being a small car company.

I think Subaru has already gotten a little too mainstream recently. Usually when car companies blow up, like what's happening with Subaru, they tend to lose their identity and quality and reliability go downhill. Hopefully this won't be the case, but only time will tell.

They are building more factories. Also their current factories are running at over double capacity.

My car WAS worth the wait!

Since my dealer knew that Subaru should have known this as well and adjusted the build time wait accordingly. Both my sales rep and myself included called Subaru trying to get something done faster and all SoA did was tell me I had to wait.
Subaru forecasted something like a 57% increase in sales in September 2012 vs September 2011 which is a huge increase. The reality is that there was actually a 150%+ increase in sales.

Cherry Hill, N.J. - Subaru of America, Inc. today reported 28,206 sales for the month of November, a 60 percent increase over November 2011. The company also announced record-breaking annual sales of 299,788 vehicles which represent a 28 percent increase over 2011 and just 222 vehicles short of achieving 300,000 sales for the first time in company history. Following the November close, on Dec. 1, 2012, Subaru achieved the 300,000th sales milestone for the first time in company history.

Outback, Legacy and Impreza models experienced the best November sales month in history. Year-to-date sales for Impreza have increased 184 percent over 2011. Year-to-date sales for newly-refreshed Outback and Legacy models have increased 16 percent and 14 percent respectively. The new BRZ and XV Crosstrek models also added 2,587 incremental sales for the month of November.

“With such strong November sales, Subaru annual sales should exceed 330,000 vehicles -- which would represent a 24 percent increase over our 2011 record sales of 266,989 vehicles,” said Thomas J. Doll, executive vice president and COO, Subaru of America, Inc. “This has been another exciting, record-breaking month for Subaru.”

“While Subaru has the industry’s highest customer loyalty, we are also seeing record levels of first-time Subaru buyers -- which has significantly contributed to our sales growth this year,” said Bill Cyphers, senior vice president of sales, Subaru of America, Inc.

I found my Yukon (3/4 ton, 6L, autoride suspension, no moon roof, so a very uncommon variant) using the internet, flew to Ohio, the dealer picked me up at the airport and I had a fun ~10 hour drive home with my new toy. Don't be afraid to go out of state or make a weekend of it.

Sorry- I've been super busy finishing up a masters class this weekend, helped my buddy knock out a load bearing wall and install cross-joists in the ceiling where the wall used to be.

I'll try to post some pics real soon. Probably going to get my car washed and scratch buffed out on Monday @ the dealer.

Default it's here!

Due to pick up my car tomorrow. It's been ages since I purchased a car from a dealer. Anything I should be aware of to check out in the final inspection?

To those still waiting, I feel for you. I think there are some others that ordered the exact same car before I did. I guess I got lucky, my dealer was in the right place as far as allocation, etc. My dealer was very up front about the wait and said it might not be here until January so I'm pretty happy it's here (and a week early at that). I hope you get good news soon!

You may want to double check the tire pressure. That's something that often gets overlooked by the dealer. The cars are shipped with the tires over infalted from the factory.

Just got it home and I love it! I will check the tire pressure next time I drive - thanks for the tip. Everything else looks good except it's missing the antenna! I knew the stock radio wasn't great but it was terrible on the drive home. When I played music back through my phone, I knew something was up. So much better. There is a little plastic cap where the antenna should screw on. Pretty funny... and annoying... back to the dealership...

Anyone want a 2013 Sport Premium 5MT can call my dealer, lol. ~6 month wait!!! That's insane (And its subject to change, lol). My dealer knows I am out and not getting a Subaru anymore so he will sell it to whoever wants it next. Better late than never doesn't apply to me in this situation, lol. I'm sure it will find a nice owner though.

Hmmm

I want SP 5mt.. what color is it? and what accessories?

I live in Olympia so. not too far

Marine blue. Lots of accessories. Front under spoiler, rear wing, pop pkg 1, side sill plates, sport mesh grill. I think that's it. Dealer is Appleway Subaru. Paul is my rep. Tell him Kris told u about it.

Yup no prob. Yeah I wanted black or white but I can't stand the white interior. So blue was what I ordered, too many DGM lol. Either way doesn't matter to me. Just figured I would post for someone who doesn't want a huge wait.

My dealer's website shows my VIN/configuration as on the lot & for sale (surprise, no phone call from my salesman), but it will be two weeks before I can finalize the sale and take it home (my delivery order lists that specific VIN). Maybe I'll find some time tonight to run over there and test drive it. They told me when I signed the order it might have 20-30 miles on it when I take delivery, it would be a fun discussion were extra miles to pop up between this week and when I take it home...

sounds like they are having other ppl beat on your car. I would prepare to raise hell if mileage on the car exceeded 10miles

during my test drive i went WOT a couple times and not treating it very nicely. after the drive, i brought it back to the lot and after getting out i could smell an odor coming from the engine, like burning plastic or rubber. not strong but it was there, dealer said it was normal and due to being a brand new car. after entering building i was told another couple had JUST purchased the car while i was driving it. i kinda felt bad i was beating up their baby. I left quickly and ordered my car the week after. got it in 2 months. (this was last year)

I stopped by tonight, the car's over at a storage lot so they'll prep it tomorrow and give me a call.

ETA:
I stopped by this afternoon, they let me take the car out without a salesman so I did some highway driving and then hit one of the windy roads in the area and had some fun. I had a blast, and can't wait until its my daily driver. Unfortunately I only had a half hour, so I was only able to put about 12 miles on the odometer (got in at 9, left it at 21). Two weeks until I can take it home.

I'm definitely not a professional photographer...
