I went with the bwc kit.....I'm very glad I did. I bolted everything up to find out I need different wheels because the spokes are hitting the side of the caliper.
The bwc kit does not modify your knuckles so I bolted all of my old stuff back on until I get another set of wheels. I could go with spacers but I'd rather not.
If I had used another brand my car would still be on the lift.
I have 2009 wrx with stock 17x7 10 spoke wheels.

Does the BWC kit have the pad overhang issue?

I saw all the brackets are sold out on the website. Also, tried their contact link but that was blank. Any recommendations on how to get a set of these?

All you guys worrying about that insignificant "pad overhang" issue need to learn to think outside the box and get into solution mode.

Back cut the top edge of the brake pads before you install them, and you will never have a "pad overhang" issue.

Place the pads in the calipers with the caliper installed (over the rotor) and run a sharpie along the edge of the minuscule amount of exposed pad, then remove the pads and take them over to your grinder and grind away the pad material along that sharpie line at a 45-60 degree angle...Problem solved.

No grinder? No problem... Use a double cut hand file...which is probably a safer alternative anyway since you can control the back cut easier and make it cleaner.

The material you removed will now not be allowed to form the overhang you guys are so worried about.

Just be trick about it and do not remove so much pad that you have cut it back below the swept area of the rotor and you are good to go....

Now go get busy upgrading your brakes... This is still the best bang for your buck brake mod you can do to non Brembo equipped Suby's....

Do you guys recommend changing out the rear brake calipers as well when putting on these ATS Brembos?

I have spoiled myself with my performance pack mustang that has the 6 piston brembos up front which provide an instant stopping feel. The rears on my mustang are just regular calipers though. My 2018 WRX stops like **** compared to my mustang, just a real slow and squishy pedal, so i am trying to get the same "instastop" feeling if it is even possible with the WRX. So far i have ordered the whole ATS front kit as well as the stainless steel brake lines. Just wondering if this is enough or if there is any reason I should go with the 06/07 FHI rear caliper kit as well? the car is not tracked and probably never will be since ive never tracked before. Its just my daily driver if that matters.

I drove mine for 2 years before getting rear brembos, there’s not a massive difference.

Does anyone know this kit can be worked with 2005 CTS-V calipers? They almost look identical to the ATS caipers.

Did you ever find out the issue? I am having a similar problem.

Does anyone have a diagram like the following so we could determine if our current wheels would work with the Brembo caliper?

Default Master cylinder upgrade?

Hi guys,

I asked this question on SubaruOutback.org but not much luck. Probably Outback guys that have ATS brakes are lurking in here instead.

I got the parts for installing ATS front and WRX red calipers rear on my 2009 Outback 3.0R. I still need to get bigger wheels as the stock 17" are not clearing the ATS clippers (they do clear the rears).

My question for my fellow Outback owners (or Legacy that share the same parts): with the increased caliper size do I need to get the master cylinder from sti to make this work properly?
Are you experience issues with the brake pedal having to travel more now to engage the brakes?
Any other issues I should be aware off?

Thanks a lot!

Has anyone on here fitted a set of 6pot/4pot CTS-V calipers to a Hawk STI (5x114.3)?

I have a JDM Spec C Type RA and looking at brake upgrades. There's a couple of online stores that offer a conversion kit. I've reached out to them but had no reply as yet. Specifically, I'm trying to find out whether the conversion uses STI rotors and Caddy pads - don't want a kit that has odd requirements to make work etc.

Many thanks

The answer that I got is: no need to replace master cylinder. The OEM Outback works fine.

One more data point for wheels fitment...
The STI calipers have more clearance on the outside toward wheel barrel, but less toward hub or spokes near the hub.
Besides the shape of the piston housing towards the hub - more bulky on STI, all else is about same size between the calipers.
The barrel clearance difference is caused by the asymmetrical position of the ATS caliper imposed by the mounting holes.

I am really excited about doing this mod with the BWC kit, I have a question though, when you guys have done this what do you do to balance out the brake bias that now must be more skewed towards the front?

For brake balance and bias do you recommend the STI Brembo rear brakes or 2 pots, something else?

Do you recommend changing the master cylinder? (this would be going on a 2014 WRX hatch)
