Plus they get to take pretend like they care about the environment.

Musk says he expects the solar panel business that he is closing many sites to ""We continue to expect that Tesla's solar and battery business will be the same size as automotive over the long term,"
the company said in a statement to Reuters. Or might that mean totally closed in next few years when Wall st. pulls cash out cause they see a foundering enterprise?

Thankfully, everyone has different tastes. The I-Pace looks better than the Model X to me but to each their own.

Now that I've seen several Tesla Model 3's on the road I think they look alright, better than in pictures. Will have to wait and see how the I-Pace looks in the flesh.

I made it fairly deep into Tesla's interview process and it degenerated into a ****ing clownshow. The guy who was supposed to conduct a mere 30 minute phone interview with me blew the appointment twice (one time he was apparently on a plane when he was supposed to be talking to me) an then went completely dark. I figured out what happened when I saw an opening on indeed.com for HIS job title and the found him on linkedin, where his profile listed him as now working for another company. Granted the plural of anecdotes is not "data" but if the rest of the company operates in the same manner (the evidence suggests it does) Tesla's fate is sealed.

Volkswagen's I.D. R electric race car set a new Pikes Peak record this weekend.

Volkswagen
The electric Volkswagen I.D. R racer set a new overall Pikes Peak International Hill Climb record Sunday, racing up to 14,115 feet in a stunningly quick 7:57.148. The previous overall record of 8:13.878 was set in 2013 by Sébastien Loeb in a Peugeot 208 T16.

This is seriously impressive, though remember, the record will not be officially official until Monday, when final times are announced.

The last time Volkswagen raced up the mountain was in 1987,

ICE are over. The electric powertrain is superior.

That is a bold statement; I'm all for EV powertrains, but it's a purpose built car bankrolled by VAG; I certainly hope it made a good showing.

E. Nick TSLA stock chart above looks be forming what they call "Head and Shoulders" or possible retrace pattern. Day traders know their chart patterns and Fibonacci patterns. You should too if you plan on investing in any stock or Bitcoins.

LOL.. sure as long as the race is only 5 - 10 miles long.. LOLOL

When an EV can do the 1/4mile in 3 seconds, then come talk to me.. It would seem that is where they should concentrate... All that torque off the line... OH wait, ICE are better at that. Just comparing a purpose built car to a purpose built car.

It is these exaggerated claims and boasts that lead to people hating EV owners.

I was ready to chime in and give VW full credit for finding the right tool for the job. EV do not lose HP at high altitudes, they are good for about 10 miles before they die, and have great predictable torque.. perfect for hill climb, but now that you have proclaimed the ICE is dead, I hope they drive off a damn cliff and catch fire. Hell Their had to be ONE kind of racing an EV would excel at. Seems short bursts of speed are what they are good at. Even a salad spinner has one good use.

Think its all about distance confidence and recharge time. Those mileages claimed are bogus once you start using HVAC and lighting etc. Recharge time , none want to talk about 3 in line ahead of you. plus do nothing for clean air. It would be better scenario if Obama went gung ho on Hydroelectric especially in water short state of CA.
Most of world is eagerly embracing cheap clean long distance LNG/CNG and you can dual fuel your vehicle with gasoline or diesel.

It was the first time a factory effort was put into building a hillclimb car. Everyone knows this.

I know right? It's certainly surprising what can be achieved with seemingly limitless quantities of money & engineering talent that can be thrown at a single effort

Out of all that, THAT piece of info is what you took out of it.

Those companies are going EV because of CAFE, not demand.
EV are still less than 1% of vehicles sold and that is slowing.

Your numbers might be a bit outdated.

PEV's accounted for almost 2% in Q1 of this year thanks to ramp up of a few models including the Model 3 and revised Leaf.

There was a 55% growth in the US, and a 59% growth worldwide from Q1 2017.

China showed 133% growth.

Not concerned with CHina...they are a different economic model...Last I looked (granted it was 5 months ago) we were still at 1%. I will dig a bit deeper on my end.

But wouldn't a huge growth there help out advances that could translate to EVs globally? That would then make them more attractive to have here?

Well sure, man, sure.. but I am just talking about Take rate. China is not a free market like the US. They do not have the unlimited choices we have. So it is not really an expression of what people want, as much as it is what they are told to buy.
