I think you need to expand on what it will include at that price as far as the remaining interior items, HID's, etc. And of course performance specs once it gets tested by multiple mags.

Definitely would.

People assume a small car with low power means must be cheap and cheap to produce, if not then is a rip-off. No way, this car is well worth the price and effort put by Toyota and Subaru.

I don't mind this, but it doesn't belong here. Needs to be in the BRZ Forum or General. I vote BRZ Forum since it seems like a fair question given that the price hasn't been confirmed yet.

If I were once again in the market for a modestly-powered two door, RWD, 4 cylinder whose greatest attributes are handling and driving enjoyment at a relatively cheap price point for 2012(and may I add with a very, VERY weak dollar compared to the Yen which is so often overlooked)... then yes.

I simply cannot fathom what people expect from a car costing $25,000 at this point in time.
I think it is priced appropriately.

No the keyless they are talking about is a true keyless where you leave the key fob in your pocket and just pull the door handle.

I'd buy the least optioned FT86. I'm saddened to see the BRZ come with 'standard' options.

Seems like a lot of money for what is essentially just the GPS and entertainment system. Although there are a ton of cool features I'd love to have. I would probably do it if not for the fact that I know there will be a more powerful version coming. I don't want to start off a new car note until then.

WRX option? OP are you retarded?

Assuming the test drive goes well, I'll happily pay $25k for a 2700 pounds FT86. At 2500 pounds, I'd be willing to pay more.

The U.S. model estimate according to Subaru's press release is 2762 pounds. I don't imagine FRS will be much lighter, but I hope it is.

Wow, that MCS must've been loaded... that's almost S-works territory.

I agree. Also, the trims don't match up exactly between the BRZ and WRX. I might've gotten some of this wrong, but from what I've read:
  • BRZ comes standard with 8 speakers (WRX has 6), voice activated GPS, satellite radio, and short throw shifter (all those are optional on WRX).
  • BRZ Premium has HIDs (you need WRX Limited to get them).
  • BRZ Limited has keyless operation (unavailable on the WRX, AFAIK).
  • To be fair to the WRX, it offers automatic climate on all trims, and its premium trim has fog lights and heated seat/side mirrors (you need BRZ Limited to get them).
IMO, the BRZ trims are on par with (or slightly better equipped than) the WRX trims, and if the BRZ comes in at the rumored $24k and $27k, I'd say it's reasonably priced for what you get. In any case, it's misleading for the poll to suggest that an equivalent WRX is $25k (since WRX Premium = $28k and WRX Limited = $29k).

Like a couple of posters have mentioned, the weight is about 250 lbs low.

I still don't believe the power claims, either. To make 200 hp @ 7000 RPM, the motor needs to still be making 150 lb-ft of torque at 7000 RPM as well. I just have a hard time believing that a factory Subaru motor is breathing well enough to make peak torque at redline. As a matter of fact, I don't think I've ever seen a dyno plot for any motor that made peak torque at peak RPM.

The redline is at 7500rpm. The torque holds steady for most of the rev range and then drops off sharply after 7000rpm. So, no, it doesn't breath well at all at redline, apparently.

Are you really that surprised that an engine with dual AVCS with some development work done by Yamaha can breath well at 7000rpm? The S2000, Celica GT-S and Civic SI all have similarly-shaped upper-end powerbands.. but the BRZ's motor has a stronger low end thanks to the 4DS direct injection.

I would have voted, but apparently, I don't have enough posts.

$25K Isn't a bad price for that car, but I would go with the Limited and add navigation. Honestly, I would prefer the Toyota (not Scion) version. For me, what's killing this car is all of the announcements of a future planned version and updates. By the time you add in all the stuff I would want, I would likely just get an STi for a little more money.

Wouldn't buy it. Car is an abomination. A Subaru with no AWD? Toyota parts in it? It's like Charlize Theron with one leg and herpes...still her, just don't want her

Is it REALLY considered a short throw if it's standard?

It's going to be taller than the typical aftermarket mod, but Subaru's BRZ brochure says short throw is standard (while it's an option with the WRX). So in this context, yes.
