I have been reading this thread for too long. Placed an order for a 2012 SWP 5-door STI on May 1st. After waiting 14 weeks from that date I was told my order would be rolled into a 2013 model. That order went in when the system opened up on Aug 15th and I got the call yesterday that the vehicle arrived. Went to the dealership to finalize paperwork and will be picking it up today at 6pm. It has been a long and frustrating wait but getting to see the car and knowing I will be driving it tonight made it all worth it.

P.S- First Subaru I have owned and couldn't be happier about the purchase. Will post pictures in the near future once the car is home and we have some nicer weather here in NY.

^Congrats. Anyone know (Mike) if dealers were able to select which ones they got in their first allocation? Just wondering if the people that didn't get their 2012, while their "order" couldn't be submitted until 08/15, the dealership could have asked for basically that order in the first allocation they were getting this month?

For what it's worth, I'm one of the ordered a '12 (in April), got bumped to a '13 guys. Both my dealer and SoA said my order for the '13 (Aug. 15th) would get priority attention. Car's due 24 Sep. Does that feel like priority? I dunno. I s'pose. Not trying to sound like an entitled d!ckhead, but I'm tired of waiting.

Anyway, to your question, if a 5 week delivery feels like a special dealer request, then you might be right.

It seems like those who have posted here that got bumped to a '13 are all getting their orders first even though the order went in on the same day...which they should. I am guessing the others that didn't get bumped just got lucky with their order matching one that was already on it's way.

Agreed, my observation as well. Bottom line, Subaru shouldn't have accepted then dropped 2012 orders. If you're getting your custom order placed 8/15 in September, you're among the first few to own a 2013.

I've been lurking for a while and finally decided to register so I could respond to this post. Do you feel like you are getting the attention you deserve now?

I ordered a 2012 back in the first week of May, I missed the order banks closing by about a week but was told by my dealer that they would work to locate one and were still due allocations of 2012's. Never happened, and my order was rolled into a 2013. (DGM 5 Door Limited with NAV), though I've told my dealer that both the NAV and the color were flexible if it meant getting one sooner.

To this point, I haven't recieved any info, VIN, eta, etc... I don't even know if the dealer actually placed a special order, or if they are just searching for one to be allocated. The dealer has told me that their subaru rep has my order and it's a priority for them to get me one. The frustrating thing is there is no end in sight. I'd rather have an eta of November and know when it's coming in then going through the motions every 4 weeks of calling my dealer for an update, waiting for a call back, being told no dice but that it's almost certainly going to be next month. I've thought i was getting this car 4 different months already. I'm still in the long haul, but it's an incredibly frustrating one. I'm incredibly jealous of you that you have a September ETA.

I have had an almost identical experience. Ordered in early May and was rolled into a 2013 that I will be getting today. If you have not already, I would call Subaru of America. I contacted them right before the order system for 2013 opened up on Aug 15th. The rep from SOA was nothing but helpful and gave me a case number to reference. She also provided me with periodic updates. She was able to provide me with the VIN after my sales rep stated he can not give me a VIN until the day the car arrives (she gave it to me 7-10 days before the carr arrived yesterday).

^^ That sounds a little shady. If you were flexible on both the color and Nav, I don't see why there would be an issue getting you one, since you basically are okay with any color limited 5-door. Ask for your VON from your dealer to see if they even ordered it.

I didn't know we could call SOA? Is there any downsided to doing it? Does it piss off the dealer?

Any idea where can I find a contact number?

One of my fears is that I don't actually have an order placed and they are just trying to find one on allocations that meets my requirement. They are a smaller dealership so I'm worried that it's just adding to the delays. The dealer has pointed out, and im inclined to believe them, that its of no benefit to them to keep dragging this thing on. Why wouldn't they want to get me a car as fast as possible?

The dealer gave me a receipt and took my deposit, Ill have to check the paper when I get home from work to see if there is a reference or order number on it.

I do, overall. Both SoA and my dealer have been good communicators. They threw me a few bones for being patient: a 2-year/24K mile maintenance package, $500 credit for accessories, and expedited processing. I say "overall" because I think Subaru is missing a huge but do-able opportunity: live order tracking. Would be a great way to reward such a loyal customer base.

The contact number for SOA is 1-800-782-2783. Go through the prompts to get a rep. I believe that after a customer contacts SOA they will reach out to your dealer (not sure if that will upset them or not). There are some Sales Reps that say not to call SOA. But honestly, that was the only way I was able to get answers after being patient without any updates. From the additional information I was able to get from SOA I would contact them to atleast get details if/when your order went in or was changed to a 2013.

Good luck.

Wow, that's a pretty sweet deal. I agree, I don't feel like I'm being treated unfairly, mostly I just feel like I'm a victim of poor circumstance and even poorer order system dynamics.

Sorry to hear about this. With you in CT, I'd reckon you are part of SoNE vs SoA. Doesnt SoNE's ordering system totally suck/not exist? I hope SoA can do something for you!

I know the cars all come through SoNE, but I wasnt aware ther ordering system was different. Could that be why I've gotten no updates?

only call SOA if your 2012 order was changed up to a 2013 do not call if you ordered a car and wondering where it is. call your dealer!

Give SoA a shot. If nothing else they can at least get you pointed in the right direction. At this point (you're what? 5 months in?) who cares if you piss off SoA/Dealer/whomever. You gave a deposit in good faith, give em hell i say!

I agree with everyone who says to call SOA. You are part of SONE but SOA should be able to at least point you in the right direction if they can't help. I've been told the SONE does not use VON's either. I don't see any limited WRX's in New England that are currently for sale, so they may just be waiting on locating one. Hopefully they at least put in your order to get you in line. That way if a car that matches your order shows up in New England, I believe they would get it put in their allocation unless someone else with that same order has been waiting longer. Regardless, give them a call. It can't hurt. The dealer may get a call, but who cares at this point, maybe then they will give you some answers.

Where in CT did you order if you don't mind me asking? I went looking at a dealer a couple years ago in CT and they just rubbed me the wrong way.
