Exclamation check engine p0017

hey guys i been having a really tough time with my08 sti fully built sleaved with 30r this is my dd i drive everyday for past 8 months with normal mantance.
evrything seemed to be fine untill extreemly hot day when sitting in traffic i got two p0017 bank 1 sensor b
after talking with my tunner and having him check it out he told me to get a new sesor and replace it.
so i did got a brand new one from suby put it in cleared the code and went on my way for 30 miles it comes back on sitting at red light
so i decided im going to do my plugs change the oil and oil filter early and make a good check over the car
cleared code drove down the street came back on sitting at a stop sigh with in five mins i was concired at this point where i didnt feel i wanted to ruin all my good hard work after building the car for three years.

my next thing was a timming belt kit new water pump ect. thinking the belt may have overheated and streched or skiped a tooth after having take a look at the old belt looks perfect every thing lines up
im still replacing it though had my tunner get the new timming belt kit on started car nothing changed same five ten mins code comes on at idle only now at this point were stumped because he already tryed adjusting it through the computer with nothing but idle serging caused code come on faster if it would die or get a load on it

made sure wires are clear not pinched shorted ect rewraped them

pulled ocv out cleaned them

acvs screens where removed at build

injectors were pulled tested

compression test leak down all perfect

im not sure whats left to try car runs good after having my tunner put it on the dyno and do some pulls make sure af and hp were near still makes 454whp/432wtq at 23 psi exectly what it made 8 months ago driveabilty is still same spool up just at idle if a load idle serges and throws p0017 but still reacts the same without any change

i really would like to get any type of info on this. i been reading for two weeks and read the same three stoires without any answers
all suby help is apprecated with good karma
thanks guys

The second O2 sensor is only for catalyst efficiency. It will not affect the way the car runs. If you have no cat, it should set off this code. There are a couple ways to prevent it. Some down pipes have an extended tube to slow down the reaction of the sensor, and others have used resistors in the sensor circuit.

Does your state do vehicle inspections?

the second o2 sensor IS USED by the ecu for fuel trims in the 32bit ecu cars...like 04+ cars

and you do NOT want to use any sort of spacer on any of these cars...the bugeye was the last car ya wanna use any spacers, really

I guess it could be used, but the cat converts NOx to Nitrogen and oxygen, in addition to taking care of unburned hydrocarbons. Seems that it wouldn't get an accurate enough reading since the exhaust is being chemically converted before it hits the rear 02.

I suppose with enough modeling, the ECU can infer anything from the rear 02. But, what do I know?

yeah...well...that is what the fsm says, anyway and there are tables in the ecu for it and you can monitor trim activity through the rear o2

and i HAVE seen d000000ds usin the rear o2 spacers who had bad fuel trim issues who took the spacers OUT and ceased having fuel trim issues thereafter....

but i dont know nuffin about it....really

What sensor did you replace for no reason?

Here's what you're supposed to do:

Perform the following procedures, and clean the oil routing.
Replace the engine oil and idle the engine for 5 minutes, and then replace the oil filter and engine oil.

If that doesn't cure the problem, then you need to check the following
items and repair or replace if necessary.
• Oil pipe (clog)
• Oil flow control solenoid valve (clog or dirt of oil routing, setting of spring)
• Exhaust camshaft (dirt, damage of camshaft)
• Timing belt (matching of timing mark)

Have you checked the cam sensor and crank sensor?

that p0017 code in a subaru is usually very bad....like one of the engine death codes

usually from using the wrong oil and/or improper oci

cam sensor lock out. the cars idle will drop below 480 rpms coming to stop with additon to a load open exhust causing the sensor ( cam sensor on bank 1 sensor b ) in this case to go off. car is free and clear of knock, strong compression, good a/f, spark

we raised the idle help the lumpy cams
inserted a slincer in to the invidi n1 exhust for daliy driving (big diffrence driveabilty smoother shifts better mpg
without it on days have fun and be heard on on track days
been two days car seems be diled in havent seen code
went subie meet, cruse, and beer and food at victory brewary
no idle serging , dieing, lummy sound
300miles and doing oil change

if code comes back ill post

thanks guys
