Default If you blew pistons or rings in a wrx....

What cylinders would go first? I have these constant misfires at iddle 3rd and forth cylinders only. I dont feel it misfire and dont see any smoke while I drive but somthing must be up. I just got back from getting my car tunned all went well I made 254whp. It is not the unichip we tested that and switched the harnes. This was doing this prior to the tune but it started a 9000 miles and know I have 11000. I thought it might be the unichip but I guess I am wrong. We also put new plugs in and it started happining after that but about not at first. If I put the ac on it gets worse. What the h%@@ is going on.

Um,

Try swapping the ingnition coils from the 2 good cylinders. If you if your rings were bad, YOU WOULD BE BURNING OIL AND SMOKING!. Usually rings and pistons are catastrophic failures. You have either an electrical, or electronic problem. It is possible that you coils could have gotten fried. How do the plugs look in the bad cylinders? Are they wet and dark, or clean and golden brown?

Don't panic just yet man! It ain't over until it is over! Probably the coil, of maybe wiring...something that is recoverable...I am pretty sure of that!

Good luck!

Also, are you running cold plugs? What heat range are you at on the plugs?

How about your plug gap? Try opening up the gap a shade on the bad cylinders...this will allow it to get a better spard at idle.

Once again...good luck!

one stage colder with a gap at .025-.028. I have bigger injecters and the car has been tuned pretty good from the begining. Would a resister in the factory egt gauge cause such a thing? Just a thought.

If you are worried about a blown piston.........

DO A COMPRESSION TEST!

It's easy and quick and will tell you if anything is mechanically wrong. My engine had bent valves and a cracked cam, so was running esentially only on one good piston.....and yes it ran, just REALLY rough, but it would not die. Plus I was getting misfire codes like crazy.....duh.

I agree that it is probably a electrical issue. If the car is running fine, and there is no smoke coming out of the exhaust, then you probably have some bad coils. They are known to go bad.

But reguardless of all this.....do a compression test and verify that your valves and pistons are good. Consider it in the least as peace of mind, then of anything else.

Cheers

EddyL.

This is the first stage of a broken piston, revealed in cranking phase only, missed one compression,
the broken block is second stage where rod comes through the side

Your oil would be burning away if you screwed up your piston rings. It's most likely something very different.

I take it you have a Unichip, the reason you have misfires codes coming up is because your timing is too aggressive under partial throttle and load. I had this same problem with my Unichip. It doesnt actually misfire it just makes the factory ECU think that. I had retuned my unichip for the partial throttle load areas and now no more codes

Could you elaborate on this player? I know this is a far back bump, but once out of every 10-20 starts I'll crank the car and it will feel like it "missed" a cylinder compressing it (like a stuck valve)
